Izana--
This is getting rather old. Am I secretly immortal and no one knows? Have I been cursed to survive death attempts? If so, that'd be great if I wanted to live and keep control of the kingdom but I don't want it and it's becoming quite a hassle. I woke up in one of the infirmary beds again with Zen sitting in the chair beside me a few hours ago. After calming his concerns, I carefully asked what happened to Roman and Reza. He explained that he was going after Reza, but he stopped when she mentioned wasting my final seconds not with him, so he left them to the guards. He thought it would be fine since they were horribly outnumbered but they got away while the herbalists were working on me. The herbalists managed to prevent my several near-deaths until they got me stabilized. Apparently if they'd been just a few seconds delayed on getting to me I would have died... Of course.
I am bed-bound for a few days until they release me to be bed-bound back in my room. The entire medical ward is on high security detail, including every window being heavily guarded. Zen is on security detail as well beyond his usual miscreant group. He told me that he's sent Obi out to track the pair but I doubt he'll get anywhere. The only concern I have now is her family finding out that I didn't actually die. Her deadline is up but if they figure out she's failed, they'll have her killed. I just hope her obnoxious attendant will keep her safe. I'm sure they can handle themselves but depending on the size and skill of her family, plus the castle coming for her for trying to kill me along with anyone else that may want her dead, it may be futile. Perhaps once I'm released, I'll go to the other castle to 'relax' and find a way to die there. That sounds peaceful. I feel bad that I wasn't able to let her get her job done. I don't want her to be killed because of me but it's not as if I could really do anything about it. I don't know anything about her or her family that could lead me to a location and even if I did, I can't exactly go rushing into a group of some of the most deadly assassins in the world... Or could I? I want to die after all... But that still leaves the issue of not knowing where they are.
Zen leaves my temporary room with a promise to return in the morning, leaving me with my small plate of food, a glass of water, several pills, and a bottle of scotch he'd snuck in for me. I feel like Garak will try to tell me that it won't be good for my recovery so she can drink it herself. She may be infuriatingly good at her job, but it doesn't replace hearing about the drinking parties she holds with her friend from The Point archers that protect the castle walls. That's honestly the life I'd like to have but even if I ran and started over, it wouldn't be long until I'm tracked down or recognized.
I sigh and put my barely touched plate on the side table before reaching for the scotch. Moving is rather difficult with all of my stitches and the loss of blood, but Zen and his little girlfriend helped me to sit up earlier. I'll just get tipsy and get some rest. As I remove the stopper, the door crashes open and I sigh.
"Whether I'm in the infirmary or not, it's rath-" I trail off as I look up to find several knights surrounding my bedside. I open my mouth to speak but one of them cuts me off.
"Your life is in danger, Prince Izana. The castle has been invaded by several assassins in dark cloaks. We are unsure of their target so we are protecting you while another group is staying with Prince Zen."
That must be Reza's family, but to my knowledge, she's not here, so why are they? Did they not make it back to their home yet so they're hunting them? Maybe it's some bizzare competition or something, but if so, am I the target still or are they going after Zen? I can't protect him if they go after him, I can't even sit up on my own.
"Split up, half of you secure the herbalists in a room on the far side away from the main grounds. The rest of you work on securing the grounds and Zen."
"But-"
"That's an order, not a question." I interrupt.
"Sir, with all due respect, you've been a target late-"
"I am aware but target or not, I am the prince and I have given an order."
"Yes Sir."
I watch them hesitantly file out of the room and I place my sword on the bed beside me, then bring the bottle to my lips. It's time to die...
The door opens and a young girl in a black cloak walks in. She can't be more than thirteen years old. I wonder who she is in relation to Reza since they somewhat resemble each other but not too closely to be siblings. She's clutching a dagger in her trembling hands despite the fierce look on her face.
"A-Are you Prince Izana?" She asks and I nod and take another large sip of scotch.
As much as I long for death, I don't think I'm quite up for being this little girl's pin-cushion.
"Is this your first murder? You're rather young, are you sure you'll be able to handle the blood?"
A grin crosses her face as her red eyes focus on me. "You'll be my tenth and once you're dead, I'll be the youngest Reaper."
"That's adorable and all, Corillina, but you can't exactly be Reaper while I'm still alive, eh." We both look toward the doorway to find Reza leaning against it, her cloak up to cover her face.
"Then I'll just have to kill you first!"
Corillina lunges at Reza but Reza lazily grabs onto the girl's head and slams her against the wall before letting her fall to the floor.
"You always were my most annoying cousin." She tuts under her breath before meeting my gaze. "So, are you immortal or what?"
