Reza--

I return to Izana's office, ready to get this over with so I can deal with Roman's upset. Despite our arrangement, I never really held him to attendant protocols. We worked off respect rather than me giving orders, but a time or two he's decided to ignore what needed to be done and in order to save him or save us, I've had to use our positions against him. I hate doing it but when it interferes with a job, I have to do what I can. My only regret with this job is that I was actually rather enjoying Izana's company. I sigh at the coming loss of interest and explain what I'm going to use to kill him. He wanted something that wouldn't traumatize his brother too badly, so this will make it look like he passed from a heart problem or something like that. As I sit on the edge of the desk, I remember his last request. I'd debated on not granting him that request, but outsiders knowing my appearance will die with him so it shouldn't matter. I lower my hood only to find him staring at me with wide eyes. Perhaps I've traumatized him...

"You've gotten your last request, so drink up, Izana." I mumble, breaking the silence as I hand him the vial then reach for my hood but he stops me.

"Please wait until I'm gone."

I nod and wait for him to drink before telling him that his body will become paralyzed then it will begin to shut his heart down.

"Is it bad that I am disappointed that with getting what I want, I won't be able to get to know you?" He asks as he looks over at me. "You're the most interesting person I've ever met in this dull existence."

"That says a lot about your life since I myself am pretty boring according to my attendant. There is not much else to tell about myself sadly, so I can't be much help." I think it may be a good thing that he is going to die very soon, considering the fact that I can't seem to not tell him things when he asks. I shouldn't have bothered trying to speak with him or anything like that, but even now I can't seem to shut up. "My name is Reza, my family name will be withheld, I'm twenty-one, and I am the daughter of the Family Head, so I am held to an unrealistically high level of expectation. I was simply raised to be the best and my first kill happened when I was only three years old. I am not fond of belonging to the family but I have no way out so here I am."

"Thank you, Reza. Your presence has been the best thing that's happened in my life as of late. If only I hadn't met you at the end."

Why does he sound like Roman at times but not in the joking way that Roman does? I look away and feel the urge to hide under my hood again but Roman's whistle sounds followed by the opposite doors starting to open. Against my better judgment, I mouth an apology before rushing through the doors to his bedroom. I hate that I have to leave him before his death is concrete, but if he survived, he'd be incredibly lucky. I hear a guard coming for me while the other is calling for an herbalist.

I make it to the balcony without being caught and drop down to the grounds where Roman is struggling to not be restrained. I draw the sword I keep at my side and attack the men holding him. It's enough of a disruption to free him and we fall in a rhythm of protecting each other as the guard numbers grow. I haven't seen the dark haired nuisance ye- oh, there he is. I block his dagger with my sword and shove him backward but I can't get back to protecting Roman because he's on me again almost immediately. Behind him in the distance I can see a group of people rushing toward the castle. Since they're not coming toward us I guess they're going to try to save Izana.

"Did you complete your job?" Roman calls out.

I meet Obi's glare and smirk. "Yes, it's done." Izana should be dead any moment now if he's not already.

This isn't good though, we need to get out of here but with it being two against twelve and one of them is an assassin, we don't have enough advantage to get the distance needed. If we tried to run we'd simply be taken out by someone else. I curse as I spot Roman getting swarmed by the guards. I've been juggling between Obi and two guards but I managed to drop one of them. I give Obi credit for not being a completely incompetent opponent.

"Miss, fall back!" Roman calls out and I immediately tell him no. "That was an order not a suggestion! I'll be fine, it's my job to protect you so go now."

"But-"

"I said go!"

I curse again and latch onto the guard and shove him into Obi, giving me the split second I need to make a run for it. As I make it over the wall, I watch the group of guards start to haul Roman away while Obi hurries after me.

I managed to lose Obi in the forest by finding one of the drop hatches used in the last war. They're hastily dug holes in the ground large enough for one person to fit in with a wooden hatch resting over it. I waited there for several minutes before climbing out. I wasn't attacked so I took it as I got away from him but now I have to fight the urge to go rushing back into the fire to rescue Roman. He wasn't supposed to be caught. This was supposed to be an easy job... I sigh and turn away from the direction of the castle and return home for now. I'll let them calm down and I'll return tonight to get him back. I'm not going to let him die there.
