Izana---
Reaper returns a few minutes later but I can feel the tension rolling off of her now. Whoever Roman is must have been in the room and angered her. She sighs softly before focusing on me, then tells me it's time. Honestly, I feel relieved that I can finally get this life over with but at the same time I'm disappointed that I won't get to know more about her. She is rather intriguing even beyond being a Reaper. I nod and pull a large envelope from my right hand drawer and place it on the desk top. It has Zen's name on the front with everything I wanted to leave for him to know, whether personal or related to running the kingdom. It'll probably help him once I'm gone.
"I've decided on a way for you to die quickly with as little pain and mess as possible." She tells me as she reaches in her cloak. "This is a poison that will start to paralyze you so you won't feel anything, then slows your heart beat until it stops."
I track her movements as she comes to sit on the edge of the desk with a small vial of a dark green liquid. She reaches for her hood and as she lowers it, I feel my breath catch in my throat. I hadn't expected her to be so beautiful, not to say that she should have been ugly, she was just a complete mystery. Her skin is rather pale as I'd noticed, but not so pale as to look sickly. Her hair is jet black and just brushing her shoulders with bangs framing her bright red eyes. My attention moves from her eyes to the red mark inked just below her right eye, the mark of the Reaper. It looks like an upside down triangle but there are thin black lines within the triangle, making a pattern that I can't quite identify.
"You've gotten your last request, so drink up, Izana."
She hands me the vial, then reaches for her hood but I find my free hand reaching out to stop her.
"Please wait until I'm gone." She arches a brow but nods and lowers her hands.
I take the cork from the vial and take a calming breath before drinking the liquid. It has an almost sickly sweet taste to it but it wasn't entirely terrible for something meant to kill me.
"It will take around fifteen minutes for your heart to stop but your body will slowly start to feel heavy and you'll be unable to use your limbs so I recommend staying seated unless you'd like to die in the floor once your legs shut down."
"Is it bad that I am disappointed that with getting what I want, I won't be able to get to know you?" I ask her. "You're the most interesting person I've ever met in this dull existence."
"That says a lot about your life since I myself am pretty boring according to my attendant." She mumbles the last part under her breath and I catch her eye roll. "There is not much else to tell about myself sadly, so I can't be much help." Her eyes meet mine and I guess she's noticed the slight disappointment on my face because she sighs before speaking again. "My name is Reza, my family name will be withheld, I'm twenty-one, and I am the daughter of the Family Head, so I am held to an unrealistically high level of expectation. I was simply raised to be the best and my first kill happened when I was only three years old. I am not fond of belonging to the family but I have no way out so here I am."
"Thank you, Reza." I tell her while trying in vain to move my legs but they don't function anymore from the knee down. "Your presence has been the best thing that's happened in my life as of late. If only I hadn't met you at the end."
A light blush crosses her cheeks at my words and she turns her attentions away, only to freeze as a high pitch whistle reaches our ears. The doors to my office start to open and in the time it takes to blink, she meets my gaze and whispers an apology before lifting her hood and rushing toward my bedroom. I try to watch her leave but my head isn't cooperating anymore. Nothing is cooperating anymore. It won't be long until my heart shuts down, but at least I can picture her face until then. My body slumps forward onto the desk as the guards enter the room. I hear one rush after her as the bedroom door shuts while the other rushes to my side. I was hoping to die before I was found but I guess even in dying I can't have the luxury of peace. The guard leaves me to fetch the herbalists I assume but they won't have time to save me even if they make it here before I die. I close my eyes and wait for my end to come...
My eyes open and I feel rather weightless. I'm not in my office anymore. Perhaps I am in the afterlife... but my hopes are shattered as the world comes into focus and I recognize the ceiling pattern to belong to the medical buildings and somewhere out of sight I can hear that redheaded girl my brother is in love with. I survived, but how? I could feel my heart slowing down as I was left alone. There's no way they could have found an antidote in time... could they? Perhaps the herbalists are the most competent part of the castle staff.
"Oh good, you're awake." It's Garak, our Chief Herbalist. "We almost lost you there. Thankfully there was still a drop of poison in the vial we found in the floor and were able to identify it. It will take some time for your body to regain movement."
"Was anyone captured?" I ask, hoping Reza had gotten away in time.
"They caught a man on the grounds and were subduing him until a hooded woman interfered. The guards managed to capture him but he made the woman leave him behind. Obi went after her but she got away. The man is in holding now but isn't talking."
"Tell the guards not to do anything to him until I give the word."
