Reza---

We made it through the night without any conflict thankfully but now Roman is gone and I am worried. Even though we got through last night, there's no true safety because the family can be anywhere. We don't have enough food to make it two more days and no way to get the hell out of here safely. We are so screwed and it's my fault but I can't tell Roman that. He didn't want to go after Prince Izana in the first place but I insisted and now it's backfired. I sigh and decide to check my wounds and stitches and rebandage myself while I wait. I can't get up to shut the door so I turn away from it so if Izana comes around I won't be exposed. I really need a drink...

"Reza, can I talk with you?" Perfect, it's Izana. Perhaps I can use him to get alcohol...

"Only if you find a bottle of whiskey for me. I know Roman brought a small supply with him."

I hear him leave so I put Roman's shirt on instead of changing my bandages. Roman decided that my shirts were too tight for my wounds so he gave me one of his.

I drain most of the whiskey after taking it from Izana, then thank him for getting it. I'm not sure what he wants to talk about but his opening statement makes me feel like he isn't sure either. Regardless, I apologize for not being around before and for where we are now. I meant to apologize for getting him into this situation but it came out wrong and I can't change it now.

"I, uh- how are you feeling? I was worried when I woke up and saw all the blood."

"Everything hurts and I murdered my favorite uncle, so I'm wonderful."

"I'm sorry. Can I ask what your plan is for me? I know you wanted to keep me from being killed by your family but I'm not sure having me around is an asset."

"I know," I sigh, "Honestly, I'm not sure what I plan to do or why I took you along with us. I just didn't want to see you die- uh, die by my family."

"While I appreciate that, I am only a hinderance to you and would rather Roman get you somewhere safely than worry about me."

"Be that as it may, if you go out there alone my family will find and kill you without blinking." I tell him while dragging my finger across my neck, mimicking slitting a throat.

"You act as if the whole reason we met wasn't because I was set to die and I told you that I was readily willing to die." Izana chuckles and I roll my eyes before meeting his gaze.

"I can't exactly keep you here if you want to leave but I do not mind your presence here."

"Reza," He sighs, "I don't think you want to kill me anymore and that's alright. I have actually enjoyed getting to know you and I really, truly, with everything in me do not want to admit this, but I think Roman taught me something."

I blink in surprise and stop mid-sip. "He did what?" I am definitely going to ignore the first part...

"I think I need to approach my desire to stop my rule of the kingdom in a different way. I don't want my brother suffering because I am being selfish."

"So what are you going to do?"

Roman returns with food and news that there have been no sightings of any of the Mitzko family. He did come across a group of traveling merchants and stole a bag of food. There's enough in it to ration between the three of us for three days if we pace ourselves. Izana and I continued to talk for a few minutes longer until he left to check the windows again. We have a plan for Izana but I still have no idea what Roman and I are going to do or how to accomplish his plan. I really need to be up and mobile again...

"How are you feeling?" Roman asks as he hands me a plate with two slices of bread and a sliced apple.

"Annoyed that I am still injured, but I know what to do with Izana but I'm not sure how to accomplish it."

Roman's eyes cut toward the main room before he closes the door and settles on the bed beside me.

"What are we doing with the pet? He's a liability and a drain on resources."

"Izana wants to return to Wistal Castle to speak with his brother and find another way to handle his desire to give up ruling. Most of the family has moved on from the castle so if anyone does go back to it they should be able to fend off the attacks." I explain around bites as I look over my notes. "After that we are free to do whatever we need to do."

"So you're okay with not killing Izana anymore?"

I nod slowly. "I think my desire to still want to kill him wasn't really that. I think it were more feelings of... friendship I believe?"

"I'm very disappointed in you." He whines, "but if he is gone I can focus on caring for my Miss and making her fall for me."

"I still can't stand you."

"You wound me, Reez." He gasps dramatically. "You've deeply, deeply, wounded me."

I chuckle lightly but the pain in my ribs reminds me of the situation at hand and I fall silent. We're not at home in our cottage joking and fighting like we used to. We're running for our lives thanks to Mother. She took everything from me, everything but Roman.

"Roman, we're going to survive this, right?"

"Of course. I can't stand Mommy Nightmare Fuel and I'm not going to let her win."

"They won't stop hunting us unless we're dead though... Unless..." I hand the plate to him and pull my papers and pencil onto my lap.

"Unless what?" He asks, abandoning his attempt at making me laugh by making a fake smile out of an orange peel in his mouth.
