Against the world/OBX

Chapter 1.

It was the first week of summer and my best friends and I spent it surfing, drinking and being reckless. What else would you expect from the pogues?

This afternoon we snuck into a home that was still being built on the rich side of the island.

I was standing on the roof with John B and John B was in front of me at the end of the roof balancing on one foot, drinking a beer.

"That's what, a three-story fall to the deck?" I hear Pope ask

"I give us about a one in three chance of survival" I said to Pope

John B licked his finger and stuck out to feel the wind, as if he was actually thinking about jumping. "Should I do it?" He asks

"Yeah you should jump, I'll shoot you on the way down" Pope says holding up a nail gun

"You'll shoot me?" John B asks while putting his fingers up as a fake gun pretending to shoot Pope.

"They're gonna have Japanese toilets with towel warmers." I hear Kie say as she comes outside from the house

"Of course. Why wouldn't they?" I hear JJ ask

"This used to be a turtle habitat but who cares about the turtles, I guess? " Kie said clearly annoyed

"I definitely would care more about the turtles than a towel warmer" I said, agreeing with Kie.

"I can't have cold towels" JJ said while laughing at us girls

"Can you please not kill yourselves?" Kie said, looking at John B and I on the roof both balancing on one foot now facing each other seeing who could balance the longest.

"Don't spill those beers either. I'm not giving you another one" JJ said

"Whoa, oh shit." John B said as he lost his balance and dropped his beer.

"Of course you did" JJ said

"I kept mine" I called out

"That's my girl" JJ said with a wink in my direction

I saw Pope look over the balcony down towards the driveway. "Hey uh, security's here, let's wrap it up" He called out to us

"Race you to the twinkie?" John B said to me mischievously

"Game on" I say back

"Run" He said with a smirk

"Humpty Dumpty let's roll" JJ called out to John B on the roof

"Let's go boys" Kie said

JJ held out his hand to help me get down from the roof and then lent over the scaffold "Gary is that you, Gary good to see you man" He calls out to the security guard.

"You're just asking for it" Kie says to JJ

"JJ" I hear the security call out.

We were all running through the house and I tripped on the last step resulting in me rolling my ankle as I saw a security guard almost grab JJ but he got out of his grip.

"Not much of a hugger man" He said

"Stay with me" JJ says as he grabs my hand helping me up and making me follow him through the house and out to the front yard.

"Go, Pope! Go! Go, go, go go, go!" JJ is yelling at Pope who is jumping the fence but fell on the way down

"Get up Pope, fatso's coming" JJ said

"Sav, I'll give you a boost, jump up" JJ held my waist and helped me jump the fence, while he jumped it easily and held his arms out to catch me on the way down
