"Hey guys, so my dad is already going to kill me. So what's this mandatory meeting about?" Pope asked as we all sat by the fire at Rixons Cove.
"Might as well tell him before we're gaffed" JJ said to John B
"Gaffed?" I asked JJ
"I'll fill you in later" JJ said putting his arm around me pulling me closer
"You ready for this?" John B said looking at all of us "So the gold never went down with the Royal Merchant" He said with a smile
"Oh my god, here we go again with this" Kie said rolling her eyes
"It's been here the whole time, on the island" John B said
"Wait, are you serious?" I asked my brother
"I'd like to voice my scepticism" Pope said
"I'm sure you would Pope, but can I please present you with my evidence?" John B asked Pope
"Proceed" Pope said sounding like a judge in a courtroom
"Alright so in my backpack, I have a letter from Denmark Tanny" John B started
"Who the hell is that?" I asked my brother
"If you wouldn't interrupt me, Denmark Tanny was a slave that survived the Royal Merchant wreck. Check this out" John B said showing us a letter "Slaves weren't mentioned as crew members on the ship, but dad, he found the complete manifest, that was his big discovery. So Tanny used the gold from the Merchant to buy his freedom. After that he bought his farm, drumroll please because that farm is" He paused while we all made drumroll noises on our knees "Tannyhill Plantation"
"Tannyhill?" I asked
"Yeah, so after that ,he used his money to free even more slaves and then he sold a shit ton of rice, which pisses off all the white planters and they decide to lynch him. So on the day they were coming to get him, he writes a letter to his son as a farewell, and in the last line of that letter, he leaves a coded message about where to find the gold. Harvest the wheat in parcel nine, near the water. Except there's no wheat. You see, wheat is code for gold" John B says excited "All we need is an original survey map of the property and we've found the gold" We were all speechless, I felt JJ get up and he went over to my brother lifting him up hugging him.
"Hello! Fire! You're near the fire. You're gonna burn" John B said as JJ was right next to the fire.
"I'm so proud of you right now" JJ said to John B
"That's really sweet of you" John B said back touching JJ's face
"Okay, would you two like some privacy?" I asked my brother and JJ
"Sarah Cameron is coming tonight, she will bring an original survey map" John B started saying
"I'm sorry, Sarah Cameron?" I asked standing up
"Why Sarah?" Kie asked
"This is going to be good" I heard JJ say as he walked behind me towards Pope.
"Sarah, she got me into the archives in Chapel Hill yesterday. That's where I got the letter?"
"You were in Chapel Hill with Sarah Cameron?" I asked, annoyed. "While I was here scared shitless that DCS caught you and that you were on the mainland going into foster care, while your best friend was getting arrested, you were just hanging out with Sarah Cameron?" I asked and everyone could tell I was pissed off.
"He was macking on her" JJ said to me, making me even angrier
"What the hell JB" I said hitting his arm
"I wasn't macking on her okay, I was using her for access" John B said
"I bet there was access all right" I said making JJ laugh at my comment
"Did you tell her about the treasure?" Kie asked
"I left out key details" John B said back, I hit him again.
"You let a kook in on our secret?" I asked shocked
"I was just using her for information" John B argued "I'm trying to make us filthy rich here"
"Why don't I believe you" Kie said to John B and I nodded in agreement
"Look, so we can pay off a boat or send you to autopsy school" He said pointing to JJ and Pope "You guys know me, do I look like the type of person to fall for Sarah Cameron?" John B asked us and didn't like the answer we all gave him.
"You can't trust her" Kie said, I know they have a history but Kie's never told me about it
"What did she do to you, exactly?" JJ asked Kie but he only got a bad analogy about cobras.
"I can't believe you John B" I said to my brother before walking away and sitting on JJ's lap not wanting to talk to John B anymore.
