Chapter 29.

We were all sitting in the van, John B driving and Kie in the front seat leaving me in the back with Pope and JJ.

"We go in there, guns a blazing, make Ward Cameron bed for mercy, abscond with as much gold as possible and vamonos, get the hell out of there" JJ said while loading bullets into his gun

"Send that shit right down the Intercoastal" John B said

"Wait for the right weather" Kie joined in

"Exit to Cuba" I said liking the sound of this plan

"Cuba?" JJ asked me "Nah babe, Xcalak, Jewel of the Yucatan. Lobsters so thick, mangoes and no word for money" JJ said as he finished loading his gun.

"Let's do this shit" John B said from behind me

We pulled up to the airstrip and parked in front of the fence so we could all see the plane as we finalised our plan.

"What's the plan here exactly?" I asked as we walked to the fence

"I don't think we got that far" John B said looking at me, as Pope pulled out binoculars to get a better look

"They're loading up the gold" Pope said

"Can I see?" I asked Pope, wanting to use the binoculars. He passed them over to me and I focused on the plane.

"There's Ward" I said as I saw his Range Rover pull up

"What the fuck?" I said lowering the binoculars making everyone look at me "Sarah is with him" John B snatched the binoculars out of my hand to look for himself

"Wow, John B. Manners have apparently gone out the window" I said to my brother who didn't even look back at me

"Wait a minute" John B said "He's hurting her" making us all ask "What?" at the same time

"They're fighting" John B said before running away

"John B, what the hell are you doing?" I yelled at my brother who was getting in the van

"You're going to get hurt John B, stop" I yelled as he turned the car on and started driving towards the fence, I ran in front of the van trying to stop him when JJ pulled me out of the way knocking us both to the ground

"JJ what the hell" I yelled annoyed that he stopped me

"Can we go just one day without you trying to get yourself killed, just one day?" JJ asked just as annoyed as me

"That's my brother! He's going to get himself killed" I yelled, standing up and going to look where John B went. He was driving right next to the plane trying to catch up to it when he finally did, he pulled in front of it and the plane making my heart stop.

I felt JJ grab my hand in his and even though I was annoyed with him I squeezed so tight.

"I can't watch this" I said before hiding my face in JJ's chest.

"Sav, the plane stopped. He's okay" JJ said and I looked up as we heard police sirens

"Guys, I can't get arrested" Pope said to us

"I'm on probation" JJ said nervously because he knows I won't leave John B.

"Look, we are no good if we are all in jail" Kie said looking at me "C'mon Sav, we need to go"

"What about John B?" I asked my friends

"He will find us soon, but if I get arrested I am a hundred percent going to Wadesboro" JJ looked at me

"Fine, okay let's go" I said to my friends.

We were waiting for John B to meet us in the agreed spot as we saw Ward's plane fly over our heads.

"Shit!" JJ yelled kicking a chair

"There goes the gold" I said looking up

"Fuck" Pope yelled as he started to kick and punch everything in sight, Kie yelling to try to calm him down but I was just staring at the sky watching the gold fly away.

Everything went quiet which caught my attention again, seeing Pope sitting down crying.

"Pope" Kie said softly

"I was wondering when this was going to happen" JJ said walking up to Pope "Here you go chief, a little weed never hurt anyone" JJ said passing Pope his vape.

"JJ, really?" I asked him knowing Pope doesn't smoke

"Relax Sav" JJ said back to me

"You know he doesn't smoke" I said annoyed

"Well, maybe not until today" JJ said as Pope took the vape off him.

"What is that going to help?" Kie asked Pope

"I lost my scholarship. Walked out in the middle of the interview. It's gone. It's not going to happen" Pope said with tears in his eyes, that scholarship meant everything to him.

"You did that for us?" I asked before standing next to Kie

"No, not for us" Pope said standing up and looking straight into my eyes "For nothing"

"I'm here for you, Pope. Welcome to my world okay?" JJ said putting his arms around Pope

"JJ seriously" I said looking at my boyfriend who is being a terrible influence

"What Sav, he's right. It doesn't matter anymore" JJ yelled looking right at me

I turned around wanting to walk away from JJ but I spotted John B walking towards us with blood all over his hands. I ran up to him and hugged him tighter than I ever have before.

"Is this yours?" I heard JJ ask looking at John B's hands

"Whose blood is that?" I asked my brother but he was frozen, until we heard the sirens and we all ducked down.

"You're going to need to fill me in a bit here" I whispered to my brother
