Christmas was filled with joy and laughter but the new year that followed was plagued with death. The Potters and Sirius Black sat around the breakfast table, James and Sirius whispering to each other despite being exhausted from being up all night with Remus while he was Wolfe, last night having been a full moon.

"I think we've finally found it, mate. It got plenty of space inside and out." James whispered excitedly.

"You don't need to convince me I've already bought it." Sirius whispered back, buttering his toast.

"Are you serious?" James whispered eagerly.

Sirius raised an eyebrow, smirking. "Aren't I always?"

 "Aren't I always?"

They both sniggered.

"It's getting worse." Mr Potter said.

Sirius and James's heads snapped towards him, uneasy. Mrs Potter looked at her husband.

"What is it, dear?" Mrs Potter asked, a sense of foreboding in the air.

"30 children were bit and taken by werewolves. 60 more died of their injuries." Mr Potter said gravely.

Mrs Potter gasped, hand over her mouth. Her eyes filled with tears. James and Sirius felt their stomachs twist uncomfortably, both them losing their appetites as they frowned in disgust.

"By who?" Mrs Potter gasped.

"Greyback." Sirius said darkly.

"It's always Greyback." James said in a cold voice.

Mr Potter nodded. "Greyback no doubt led the charge but even he couldn't do this in one full moon. The Ministry think Voldemort now has a werewolf army. The Ministry are trying to implement harsher laws on werewolves."

Sirius and James looked at each other, panicked. They could both only think of one thing.

Remus and what this would mean for him.

"What kind of laws?" James said in a tight voice.

"Forcing all werewolves to come forward and be registered." Mr Potter said.

"Can they do that?" Sirius demanded.

"If they were determined to, but werewolves aren't there biggest problem according to the paper." Mr Potter said.

"There's not something worse?" Sirius said with dread.

"There can't be." James whispered, more like pleaded.

"150 muggle and muggle born families slaughtered. They're still identifying them all." Mr Potter said and he had to stop for a few minutes to take in what he was reading.

"A 150?" James repeated in a barely audible whisper.

Mrs Potter was sobbing into her hands suddenly Sirius was rubbing her back. "I know, Mum. It will be alright."
