Renée's POV
I don't think there's anything normal about being abducted and waking up on a comfortable bed completely free from the rope that was once binding my ankles and my wrists. I sat us gradually. My head feels heavy. I'm a little drowsy.

There is a woman fanning herself on an armchair. She is busy on a laptop.

"Hi." I greeted her.

She smiled brilliantly. "You're finally awake! I was starting to worry!" She approached. As she got closer I recognized her.

"Dabi?"

"In the flesh!"

"I... I have been looking for you."

"I have been looking for you too! As soon as I heard Carl Hanniel was using you as a bargaining chip, I told Adair about your skills and he agreed that we must have you!"

"Who the hell is this Adair?"

She took my hand. "Come see for yourself." She brought me to the windows and pointed to a man in the garden. He's pacing around. "That is Stoll Adair."

"Your leader?" I frowned at her.

"Oh no! That's not how things work with him. He doesn't put himself above us. Everything is out to a vote to ensure fairness and openess in all matters. It's a complete contrast to the monarchy."

"Did he out Carl's execution to a vote?"

"What?"

"Carl is dead! They murdered him!"

"No..." Dabi shook her head. "There must be a mistake."

"What mistake? He was shot in front of me!"

"Renée, you have obviously had a traumatic experience. Did you hit your head? I dint think you're feeling well. I'll get the doctor!" She grabbed her laptop and ran out and when I followed, I found she has locked the door.

"Dabi! Come back and open this door! Dabi!"

I pulled at the handles but they wouldn't open. I screamed out in frustration. I gave the door multiple kicks until my leg grew numb.

I moved back to the window. I was surprised when it opened. I stuck my head out.

"Hey you! Hey you!" I screamed at the man pacing around. He looked up and waved at me. "You're a murderous psychopath! You're going around brainwashing people! That shit won't work on me!"

I was suddenly pulled away from the window by two men. A woman in a red dress and red lipstick stared at me. "Dabi says you're having a panic attack."

"I'm not having a panic attack!" I screamed. "Let me go!"

"They will give you something to relax."

"No! No! Stop!" I struggled. "It will hurt the baby! I'm pregnant!"

"Stop... Stop." The woman instructed. My gut was right. She looks sympathetic. "What did you say?"

"I'm three weeks pregnant!  It's fragile. Please... I already survived a blow to the head. Please... I am just a panicking mother to be who has been separated from her baby's father. Please..." I started to sob.

This is not an original script. Dani, my mother pulled this same script when we my older sister shop lifted and put the stuff in her handbag. It was a very expensive diamond necklace. Dani offered to pay them for it. She could afford it after all. But they did not want money. They wanted to make her a poster child for rich people who steal things. While my older sister completely pretended it wasn't her doing, my mother ran the three week pregnancy story and how fragile it is. She said she can't stand stress. She out on such a dramatic show that they let her go. She bought the necklace to thank them for their understanding.
