The Chrystal Isles
Winter Taof's POV
"Delaney! Delaney! Delaney if I call you again I will kick you where the sun doesn't shine!"I listened carefully but Delaney did not answer. I turned off the tap and grabbed a knife. I held it steadily at my side and made quiet stealthy movement through the little wooden house. Part of th floor creaked under ne but I kept moving. I expressly told my son not to go outside. But sometimes he pretends he doesn't have ears to listen. It's awfully quiet. He's never quiet.
I stopped a few inches shy of the entry way to the next room. For some reason my breathing escalated. I can see Delaney seated very still on a chair. He made eye contact. He looks scared. His eyes shifted right really fast and then back at me. I moved swiftly lunging right with the knife when Cathan caught my hand and slammed it against the wooden wall.
Delaney tried to get up.
"Sit boy!" His voice thundered through the room for my son to obey. His blue eyes met mine. "Really? In my own backyard?"
"I was going to choose Carperia but the atmosphere was suffocating and toxic!" I kicked him between his legs. He growled out in pain forcing him to let go of my wrist.
"Boy, go to your room." He forced himself to stand up.
Delaney expressed confusion. "There's no other room sir."
"What do you mean?" Cathan looked around. "That's it? Two steps and it's over!"
"I'm sorry my love, is it disappointing? Did you buy my a palace I don't know about?"
"You had a General's salary."
"The key word is had. Besides, the crown froze my accounts."
He looked at the boy again. "Haven't you heard of moving money around?" He turned his attention to his son. "Go outside."
"Yes sir." Delaney agreed.
"Maintain a radius I can see you clearly!" I shouted.
"Yes!" He shouted back.
Cathan closed the door and took off the furry hoody.
"You cut your hair."
"I was trying something different." He ruffled it up into a sexy mess. "It's my first haircut since I served the navy. How are you my love?"
Is he serious right now?
"I'm doing great! You know, playing hide and seek with the crown and nothing to eat sometimes, abject poverty. That kind of thing. Other than that I'm doing great my love! Thank you for asking!"
Hanniel helped me to come to the Chrystal Isles. He said that the subjects here are the least likely to betray anyone to the crown. All I have to do is leave out of town and keep my head down.
"I'm sorry." He tilted his head making puppy eyes at me. "Please forgive me."
"You threw me under the bus!"
"It was a difficult situation. The other Generals and Admirals knew about us. I had to react exactly the way I would have if it was Arden or Bowie who had been accused of treason. I am sorry but I couldn't show mercy even a little. They would think I am sheltering you."
I folded my hands across my chest. "How did you find me?"
"One of Arden's men saw you crossing the ice road. The news moved up the ladder. I decided to beat everyone to it."
"You decided to get here first. Alone?"
I opened the front door and looked around. There's only two other houses here. Delaney is out of sight! Typical! I closed the door.
