Chapter Forty Nine: The Stabber

Prince Relian's POV
The sound of the ticking clock is all we can hear. Other than our individual thoughts, there's nothing else. In my mind thought, there's much. Nilsa played the long game. We never saw the check mate till we were running for our lives. We got out fast with Bowie's help. He was eager to get us out of Carperia using a private helicopter all the way to Saine Neane, hand delivering us to Rowan.

We are safe for now. Rowan isn't enforcing Nilsa's rules and it will only be a matter of time before she confronts Rowan.

"Reli." My grandmother touched me. "Dabi has been calling you."

I faced the young woman with a troubled expression. Dani was detained at the Iron Army base after her arrest. She's the first person I thought of as soon as it dawned on me that Nilsa will close borders to have a firmer control over the duchies. Using my security access, I sneaked into the base to free her. She is just like Renee, resourceful with a computer. She got Renée into the system to make her transition easier. Having her in the system also helps us to know when she gets arrested.

"No hits. I'm sorry." Dabi is looking for her.

"Thanks."

"She played the long game. She fooled us for so long." My grandmother sighed.

"What about her announcement being on the same day with Adair?"

"Coincidence. They will get rid of each other. We will fight whatever is left. We can't stay in Saine Neane." She looked at me. "Rowan is our ally but let's not out him in a difficult position. I'm going home. You should come."

"To the Chrystal Isles?" I have been there once. I'm too young to remember.

"Yes. I have already spoken to my sisters. They have assured me that Nilsa's lies will not go unpunished. As soon as we get there safely, we are driving Arden out and cutting ourselves off from Chea Niva."

"The ice road still joins you to Saine Neane. Nilsa will use it to get to us."

"That's why as soon as we get there, it will be blown up."

I closed my eyes. "As soon as we find Renée and get her here we can go."

I looked around the small room that Rowan has hidden us in. Not even his servants saw us. He is not risking anything. Barlowe, Dabi, my grandmother, Renée and I will be the ones going to the Chrystal Isles. We are only missing Renée.

"Dabi, how long do you think it will take?"

"Honestly Reli, I don't know." She answered. "Unless the tags I have out out come up, it won't be easy."

"What do you mean? Speak English." My grandmother told her.

"I'm sorry Queen Mother. What I mean is... for example, if she was to make a phone call, if she mentions anything like Reli, Saine Neane or her own name just to mention a few, I'll be able to narrow it down."

"Then what?" My grandmother asked.

"Then we not only know where she is but I can communicate with her."

"How?"

"With anything she can read. If she's near a payphone, I can call the payphone and whoever answers can get her for me. There are many ways. Renée is smart, she will get the memo. We just need to find her first."

"Your computer is beeping." Barlowe passed me a peeled apple.

I bit into it.

"Found her!" David screamed.
