Prince Relian's POV
Stephen and I got back to the palace in the early hours of the morning. Renée and I spent most of the night talking about random things. She's a light hearted girl, not at all serious. She is funny and strangely smart. I enjoyed her company. Iwas going to probably look for a quick lay last night but just holding her hand and talking to her satisfied me more.

"How much do you know about her? Is she a Chea Nivan?" Stephen asked me.

"It's none if your business."

"Your Highness, you allowed her to look at palace surveillance. As head of the Royal Guard, I'm disturbed and unsettled that your grief for Thalia is blinding your reasoning."

"I'm going to assume you didn't call me emotional and unreasonable. You're dismissed. I'll v leaving for Ebrium in a few-"

"No please you don't understand!" I heard my grandmother's voice. My father is dragging her along the hallway. "I have to go!"

"For the umpteenth time mother! No! No one is calling you and you're not leaving me!" My father's voice boomed.

I followed them and ran into my mother. "What is going on?"

"She is losing her mind. She keeps saying Thalia is calling her. She is convinced..." My mother gripped my arm. She looks scared. "That Thalia is lurking around the palace looking for answers."

I'm not superstitious but this is chilling. I don't even looked over my shoulder.

We accompanied the king to her room where he out her on the bed and they sedated her. He looks frustrated. He's barefoot, in rolled up pajama pants and a white t-shirt. He probably just got out of bed to deal with this.

"Good morning." I greeted him.

"What's good about it?" He asked me. "Are you here all day or are you leaving?"

"I'm leaving in a short time. I'll just talk to her a little."

"See me before you leave. Come on Takara." He took her hand. They left us alone. I sat on the bed gazing at her. She is unsettled.

"Grandmother." I placed my hand on her arm. "Are you okay?"

Her eyes quickly shifted to me.

"Of course I am. But these idiots think sedating me is the solution to my problem!"

I frowned at her tone. She doesn't sound like the woman who was screaming a few seconds ago.

"In their defense your actions are alarming. They say you can hear Thalia calling you."

"Can't you?" She asked me.

"No I can't." In my sleep yes. She calls me often but it's not in a creepy way. It's a replay of the night we spent in tbe Bell Tower, the night we made love. That's the night that replays in my mind. That is when I hear saying my name.

"Come closer." I leaned close. "It would be madness to hear a dead person calling you. I can't hear her either."

"What do you mean?"

"There's a killer in this place and I'm eliminating myself from the killer's interest by being invalid. What other ways are there but public madness? I want to the killer to find me useless. I want to live and die on my own terms."

"You're faking it. You're not seeing or hearing anything." I whispered.

"Call it self preservation." She lay on her back looking at the ceiling. I got on her bed and did the same. Her ceiling mural is a replica of the Chrystal Isles. Snow, ice, a white bliss of nothing.
