Y/n's POV
"Hey, Lanni! Stop messing around and come out!" Thoma yelled looking around frantically "Lani! Answer if you hear us!" Y/n yelled looking out into the forest. Where is he??? "Shhhh" Ray hushed and we all went quiet listening for any answer, no response.
"Ray, Y/n! I'm gonna go look for h-" Emma started "Wait!" Ray yelled. Something doesn't feel right... "This is weird... Y/n, Emma something isn't right." Ray said, Emma, Thoma and Chris one of the younger children behind us (Y/n and Ray) "There's no response. Not only from Lani." Ray started."Why... Why isn't anybody else saying anything either...!?" You finished, realizing what Ray was trying to say.
"No way..." Emma said and we all ran towards the opening where we had been eating "Where did everyone go?" Emma asked. "Where did they go...?" Y/n said getting a bad feeling as she stepped into the opening along with everyone else. You looked around, the trees around us. and suddenly, the floor collapsed under us.
"Ekk!" You yelled as you fell into a pit of darkness You heard the other struggle as well. Where are we...? It's so dark... What just happened? Your head filled with questions as you stood up, it was pitch back all around you but, you still heard the others around you move around. "Y/NNNN! RAY! THOMAA! WHERE ARE YOU? ARE YOU OK?" you heard Emma say from somewhere to your right. "Y-YEAH I'M FINE WHAT ABOUT YOU?" Y/n yelled then you soon heard Thomas's response "AGHHHHHH! A BUG!" He yelled and you couldn't help but let out a laugh of relief and you headed towards the sound of Emma's voice, and when you reached Emma Ray had already made it to her "are? we underground?" Emma asked "Yeah, most likely Ray answered, "Could it be that everyone else is also down here?" Emma asked and shifted around "Let's search." Y/n said right next to her. and suddenly, a slicker of light came from the side, "Guys." You said grabbing them and making them face the light.
"Emma...? Y/n...? Ray?" Gildas's voice said coming from the diction of the light "are we dead?" You said "No." ray answered sternly "That was a joke." You huffed "GILDAAA!" Emma yelled and ran over toward what were now silhouettes of our siblings.
You followed Emma towards them along with Ray and Chris. "Thank god your all ok!" Emma said and the younger children ran up towards her and hugged her. Don had been the one holding a lamp, one that we had packed just in case. "Look, Emma!" One of the children yelled pointing out around us, And just like that, Y/n took a look around. "...What is this place?!" Ray asked looking around as well. "Look at these roots!" Chris yelled, and indeed there were roots surrounding us, as well as flying bugs and some sort of weird plants. "It's a cave made out of roots..." You said looking around and admiring the cave. What is this though... this is nothing like the plants above ground.
"Let's focus on just getting out of here for now," Emma said and pulled on a nearby root hanging from the roof of the cave. "No good... All the roots here are too weak to climb..." Emma whined, "It looks like it'll be too difficult to find our way back outside from here." Gilda said and y/n looked up again only now realizing that the hole that they had fallen down had closed up. "Let's look for a different exit for now!" Don said and headed down the cave, the younger children gawked at what was around them.
"They look like they're having so much fun!" Gilda started saying "They've all forgotten the fact that they're tired. it's a lot warmer in here than above the ground... and maybe this was for the better after all, since we'll be hidden from our enemies as well!" Gilda said with a smile as she watched the children run around admiring the cave. 'No..." Ray objected "I really think we should get out of here as soon as possible." Ray said and Y/n nodded. "We have no idea what's waiting for us at the end of this path... we have nowhere to run if we're attacked by anybody or anything.. and also..." Ray explained, "This forest is weird. this underground too... why... is there such an opening here?" Ray said making a point "I see..." you said
and then suddenly we reached an opening, "Whooaaaaah!" A big tree was in the middle, flowers surrounding it... Glowing flowers. "So this is a dead-end huh..." Don said and put a hand on the tree "Hey, it looks like we'll be able to climb from here! I'll go first, to check it out!" Don said looking back at us with a smile.
"We'll leave it to you!" Emma said with a cheerful smile. But Y/n still couldn't shake off a feeling that something was wrong.
"WAAAAAAAAAH!" Nat yelled and fell over, he had a terrified look on his face. "What's the matter nat?!" Emma asked and looked over to him "Uh... Look... Up there!" Nat yelled and pointed up towards the ceiling where monstrous beasts hung from the roof "So that's how it is..." Ray said "We're in big trouble. this place... this forest is..." Ray said But before he could finish the roots behind Alicia and Jemima who were admiring the flowers moved "Alicia, Jemima! RUN!" Emma yelled and moved them out of harm's way.
The roots moved around, trying to grab us. "look..." Lannion said and pointed to where the entrance should have been "The entrance we came from is gone!" Lannion said. Y/n turned around and it was indeed gone, it was as if it never was there in the first place."NO WAY... WE"VE BEEN SURROUNDED!!! WHEN DID THESE ROOTS BLOCK OUR ROUTE?!"
The roots moved around us as we huddled in the middle next to the tree "this is most likely where this tree feeds. The trees around here live off the nutrients of live animals" Ray said "Live animals!?" Nat yelled, you sighed "Well, this is troubling..." You said as you watched the roos move around like dying worms. "It dropped us in here and lured us to its feeding ground. that's why there was a huge hole... and why there was only one path. that's why..." Y/n said as she figured it out herself. "in other words, we've all fallen for its trap." Anna said with a worried expression.
"EVERYONE GET CLOSE TOGETHER! WHATEVER YOU DO, DON'T STRAY!" You yelled "What should we do!? Burn down the tree?!" Don Yelled, still holding the only light source we have out. "No, that's too dangerous! We'd probably die before the fire kills the tree!" Ray yelled. "And the smoke might lead the enemy right towards us!" Gilda said as she held a child as if for dear life. "Then what should we even..." Bat asked with a terrified look on his face, so terrified that it was almost funny.
Wait "I've read about this before!" both you and Emma said at the same time and we locked eyes "Ray this is 'the snake of something something!!!" Emma yelled franticly pointing at the roots "Say what?" Ray asked "T-The snake of- Of-! OF!!!" You yelled yet the name couldn't come to mind. Then Emma reached into her backpack and pulled out a book "From one of those two books! These books really are our guide after all!" Emma said and showed us the book "Mr. Minerva's adventure book!" Both Emma and you said with a smile
