Chapter 25 - What it is like to have someone whom you can call a 'hyung' ⚔️

"Actually.. I.. just want be friends..!"

Lee Soo Hyuk shrugged his shoulders and lightened up the atmosphere as he noticed the boy's concentration toward his response. He, then, continued.

"I mean, friends are supposed to take care of each other, isn't that right? Of course, that's why I'm bribing you with lunch and all. Because I want to be friends! Would you grant the wish of this old guy?"

He brought his hand close up to his nose, and started to rub it as though he was about to shed tears of how he finally had the courage to tell the boy.

Needless to say..

Kim Rok Soo was taken aback.

In his small but smart brain, he had thought of many negative responses that Lee Soo Hyuk would be saying about him having a bad intention toward himself.

However, this was unexpected?

Trustfully, Kim Rok Soo did want to hear that kind of response, but.. aren't things going too well..?

The boy couldn't help but thought why the guy beside him said something too good to believe.

But, of course, even after hearing such a thing, the boy's cold demeanor still remained. An invisible high wall was still in between of the two.

It was a very wall that Kim Rok Soo had built to distant himself from other people, or rather, to protect himself from the evils that couldn't be seen through naked eyes.

If one good word could make him let his guard down, then, Kim Rok Soo's guards would have been long gone. It wouldn't have been reflexively building up such a thick wall.

The word.. the response.. may be something that he wishes to hear, or perhaps, the one that he has always been longing for since, forever.

Though, it didn't change the fact that human's words can be even more poisonous than venomous snake. They can be sugar-coated for who-knows-how-many-layers, and they would turn into a poison when you less expected it.

It may start with a 'friend'.

But, then, what next?

Gradually, the word 'friend' would tie you down and leave you no options to refuse.

'Ahh.. he's my friend. I guess, I should do this.. and that.. for him.'

People could actually use your soft-hearted and draw out your usefulness to their advantage.

Yes.

Anything can happen. It's all about the matter of times.

That's just how scary reality can be.

"And, why would I do that?" Kim Rok Soo hardened his voice, showing no signs of hesitation for other side to catch on.

Well, at least, that's what he intended to sound like.

Although, it was quite opposite from his inner thought.

'Why would I be your friends? When I don't even know when you would strike me from behind?'

Who knows what the future lies?

Everything is possible.

A friend can turn into an enemy in the next day.

'So, give me an insurance that I can actually trust you.'

So, please,

Say something. To prove that you're exceptional. That, you're different from everyone he had met. That, you won't turn your back on him. No matter what.
