I opened my eyes slowly. My head rested on Mike's chest as he stayed asleep.
I rubbed my eyes and tried to go back to sleep. Not too long later, Mike started waking up.
"Sam, we have to go to that dress store in town." He said while petting my hair.
"Mike,"
"Hm?" He said sleepily.
"You seem really tired, I can go get a dress." I said.
"You promise you won't still my credit card and run off?" He chuckled.
"I promise." I chuckled back.
"Okay here." He reached over and searched with his hand for his wallet on the nightstand.
"I've got it. Just go back to sleep." I stood up from the bed.
"Okay good night."
I shook my head with a smile.
After picking out a outfit to wear, I headed to the store in town he was talking about. I remembered walking past it a couple times when picking up deliveries.
I haven't drove a car in a minute so I decided to walk. It'd be nice for me to get in some exercise anyways.
About twenty minutes later, I was a few feet from the dress store. When I walked up to it, there was a dress in the window that caught my eye.
It was a grayish blue dress, with little flower designs at the top. It was fluffy and light looking. The top part was see through but the flowers covered it. There was a slit right through the left side from the thigh down.
My mouth fell open looking at it.
"Ooo so it's this dress that catches your eye." A middle aged woman walked out of the store.
"It's very beautiful, how much is it?" I asked.
"Oh it should be worth a hell of a lot but it's only 136." She smiles widely.
"Normally I would say a really outrageous price to scare people away but it looks like it would really suit you." She tilted her head looking at me.
"Seriously?" I raised my eyebrows. "I never wear dresses." I informed her.
"Well if you wear any dress for the rest of your life, let it be this one." She smiled and motioned for me to come in.
A couple minutes later, I walked out of the fitting room in the dress looking around for the woman.
A few people in the store stared at me in awe causing me to get shy.
"You look wonderful my dear." The woman said startling me from behind.
"Thank you."
"but do you think this is too much for a wedding?" I looked down at myself.
"As long as you aren't wearing white." She laughed.
"I also would like some heels to go with, if you don't mind. You choose."
She nodded at me and ran off.
I looked at myself in the mirror. I liked what I saw. The woman came up to me with silver high heels.
"You look like cinderella." She remarked.
"Then maybe this is too much for a wedding." I sighed.
"What do you mean? Keep this dress you look absolutely perfect." She said stopping me.
"Okay." I smiled rubbing my arm.
At the register, I paid for the dress and shoes. 217 dollars.
I hope Mike doesn't mind.
I thanked the woman gratefully for all her help and started my walk back to Mikes.
I began to worry if walking to the store was really the best idea. Men stared at me as I walked up the street. I asked to put the dress and shoes in a bag instead of a box so I didn't have to worry about dropping it.
With the bag in one hand, I had my pepper spray in the other.
Once I made it back to the house, I carefully walked up the steps as they were a bit slippery.
When I unlocked the front door, Mike came running down the stairs.
"Slow down-"
"Where were you?" He asked.
"I went to go get a dress. I hope you don't mind I got shoes too." I was saying until he pulled me into a hug.
"Yes it's fine that you got shoes too. You didn't take my car?" He questioned. "I called you over and over again Sam."
I reached in my bag and searched around. "Sorry, I must've left my phone. You didn't hear it ring?"
"It must be on mute or something. Sorry for freaking out like that." He scratched his head.
"It's okay, I probably should have taken the car."
"Well, let's see the dress!" He went to grab the bag.
"Not until the wedding. I like it very much and it should only be seen on a special occasion." I smirked.
"Okay then Miss, Giddings."
"How much was all of it?" He asked.
"Two hundred and seventeen dollars." I answered holding my breath.
"Oh," He said.
"Is that too much?" I asked.
"I expected it to be more actually. What color is the dress?"
"Why?" I crossed my arms.
"I can get you some jewelry to wear."
"Silver works, thanks." I ran up stairs not wanting to reveal anything about the dress.
