You put your hand on Steve's shoulder while he was riding the motorcycle. He smiled at you. The next mission, apparently, would only take a few hours. By dinner time, you would probably be home or on your way back.
"Are you sure it's here?" You asked when Steve stopped the bike.
"That's what the map said, but I think we better check," Steve replied.
It looked like an abandoned building in the middle of a forest. In none of the files you were given, did it say anything about it. However, the coordinates and location were correct.
"Well... we have work to do," Steve said as he walked by.
You nodded. Although it was still daylight, it didn't mean that you wouldn't have to take precautions. You really didn't know what kind of enemy you were facing. Although you read the information, sometimes there was data that was not included due to the authors' ignorance.
Another strange thing was that you didn't hear any noise, not even in the forest part. It was like there were no animals, not even when you stepped on the leaves on the floor. You weren't sure if Steve hadn't noticed, but he seemed calm and focused as always. However, you had a hunch that something strange might happen.
In the same way that it seemed to you that the light began to decrease, it did not seem to make sense, since it was barely going to be noon. You took a deep breath. Maybe you were nervous, or your mind was playing tricks on you. You had to concentrate on the mission; it was the kind of mission you always did and it never went wrong.
You knew that enemies could appear at any time and attack them; you didn't think you'd fled; you knew that any enemy wanted to capture Captain America, and you'd have to face them.
When you entered the building, it also seemed abandoned. It did not even have any signs that at some point it had been used as a laboratory. You noticed again that not even your footsteps in that empty place were heard. There was definitely something strange about that mission, but you did not know how to tell Steve.
Right in the middle of the corridor that was in the middle of the building, on the ground floor, was a box containing the documents that were their objective. Both looked at each other strangely. No mission was that simple. You very carefully took them without lowering your guard. You knew that at any moment, enemies could appear, or it could even be a trap.
You quickly left the place. However, the forest did not seem to be the same place, and even though it seemed as if it was dawn, you were sure that you had not taken so long in there. It had been less than 5 hours, even before finding the box. You checked your watch; there was no way it was night.
It was five o'clock in the afternoon; there was no way that darkness could exist unless the clock had broken down. You kept walking for another few minutes. However, it didn't seem like you were heading towards where you left the motorcycle.
"Steve, I think we're going in the wrong direction." "We're going into the woods," you said, trying to stop him by grabbing his arm. He looked at you, then he looked around. You were right, but somehow you had to get back on the right track before things went wrong.
"Here, hold my hand," he said, as he stretched out his hand.
You started walking in another direction. You lost track of time, but finally, you got to the motorcycle. You turned to see Steve confused. There was still some sun. You saw your watch. It was six o'clock in the afternoon.
"What just happened?" Steve questioned you heavily.
"I'm not sure, but we have our goal," you replied, as you checked your purse. The documents were still there.
"Where do you want us to go for dinner?"
"Hamburgers."
You were not sure what you were going to write in the report. You did not even understand what happened in that place. Had you traveled in time?
Maybe that didn't matter, but if you could say that the mission had been a success and you were fine, it might be best not to talk about what happened again.
