A Misinterpretation

Jimin POV

With the weather causing delays and yesterday's snowball fight causing us to miss dance practice, Addy suggested that we skip English lessons for the day. She also asked that I postpone our alone time for a few days. I could tell she was still struggling with the thought that Yoongi hated her. She really did care about all of us.

That night, I decided I needed to have another talk with Yoongi. He needed to put Addy at ease. I pulled him aside when the others weren't paying attention and asked if we could have a private conversation. He agreed to meet.

"Yoongi hyung, about earlier today . . ."

"What about it? I think we are both pretty clear where we stand. I mean, nothing's ever going to come of it with Addy being married. If by some miracle she becomes available, I hope it won't hurt our relationship when I win her heart. Will it?" he smirked, then chuckled.

I smiled at him and laughed. It was good to see him in better spirits after being so upset this morning. "Yoongi hyung, I certainly hope it doesn't hurt our relationship when I prove you wrong. I mean, regardless of the possibility of her becoming available, don't you think Addy should have a say? Maybe she won't want either of us."

He nodded.

"That leads me to what I actually want to talk to you about."

"This isn't what you wanted to talk about?"

"No. You see, I saw Addy again after she left your studio today. She was crying, Yoongi hyung."

"Crying?"

"She thinks you hate her."

"Hate her?!"

"Because of our conversation earlier, I know you were just upset because you care about her but you are afraid to tell her just how much you actually . . . care about her, you know? Because she's married."

"Jimin-ah, to be honest, I was a bit upset that she read the song lyrics . . ." he hesitated, ". . . because the song is about her. I was embarrassed that she had read my thoughts and feelings about her. I was afraid she would see me differently--and not in a good way. But for a split second, a part of me was hopeful. I actually hoped she would realize it was about her and that she would leave her husband to be with me. Isn't that crazy?"

"When it comes to Addy, no."

"And then I realized she had no idea it was about her. She said, 'If she's a real person, she's very lucky to have you in her life' and it was like my heart skipped a beat and then I took a punch to the gut. She managed to simultaneously imply she would be lucky to have me and display complete disinterest in me."

"Woah. That had to feel--"

"She really thinks I'm mad at her for reading the song lyrics?"

"Yes. She does."

I hesitated to say more, but I looked at the expression on his face and realized I needed to give Yoongi a little bit more context so he could understand her better. "Yoongi hyung, I've noticed she struggles with reading the feelings and intentions of men."

"What do you mean?'

"Well, like that guy that stopped by a few weeks ago and invited her to dinner."

"Oh, yeah! That guy. Man, he was eyeing her like he wanted to take her right then and there."

"Exactly! Maybe you didn't notice, but I could tell she wasn't the least bit interested in him. She saw him strictly as a colleague."

"Oh, I noticed." He smirked a little at the fact that he knew the guy had no chance with her.

I thought carefully about how to deliver the details without giving away too much. "Well, I overheard that he quit shortly after that dinner. Apparently, he made a move on her that night. He got aggressive with her."

"What the FUCK! Is she okay?"

"Yes. Some guy saw what was happening and stopped him in time."

"Wait. How do you know all this, Jimin-ah?"

"I overheard some staff talking about it in the bathroom."

That part was actually true. Our HR staff didn't do the best job with the confidentiality of non-idol staff. Someone had come around to interview all of his department staff including Addy when the guy suddenly quit so they could cover themselves in case of a potential lawsuit. His sudden exit had left management suspicious. Addy told them everything--everything except for who the guy was that had pulled the creep off of her.

"Damn. I wish I had known."

"So you can see, Yoongi hyung, Addy--she doesn't seem to realize the effect she has on men. Right now she's hurting inside because she thinks she pissed you off."

"Fuck. The last thing I want is for Addy to think I hate her." He shook his head.

"You are going to have to find a way to let her know that. I know you didn't mean to, but you left her feeling like she had done the worst possible thing to you by reading those song lyrics. She's crushed."

He looked at me and replied, "I'll do it the first chance I get tomorrow."

I stood up to leave when he suddenly called to me, "Jimin-ah?"

"Yes, Yoongi hyung?"

"Why did you tell me this? I mean, you didn't have to let me know. If anything, it would give you an advantage over me."

"Two reasons, Yoongi hyung. One, you're my friend and brother. Two, I can't stand to see Addy unhappy."
