Some Drinks

Jimin POV

When I saw Daniel pound his fist on the table, and heard him raise his voice at Addy, I grew worried for her. I got up to go over and rescue her from him, but she looked at me and shook her head to let me know she could handle it. I wasn't so sure, so I moved to the closest barstool to their table that I could so I could listen in. I had to keep her safe.

Based on the English I could make out, Addy had told him about me, or at least that she had someone new in her life. Daniel was furious. As I listened in, I caught the English phrase "marry him?" coming from Daniel and "in a heartbeat" coming from Addy as she nodded. I understood exactly what was being said. Daniel wanted to know if she would marry me, and she said yes. I couldn't help but turn to her and smile.

Daniel had a look of disbelief on his face. When she stood up to leave, I caught Addy saying she needed to love herself and then tell him goodbye. I was so proud of her for standing up for herself. She left him there and I noticed tears start to form in his eyes.

He paid the tab, picked up his drink, and walked over to the bar. I quickly turned my back to him, hoping he wouldn't recognize me. It was just my luck that he chose to sit on the stool right next to mine. I kept my head down and pulled out my phone, hoping he wouldn't try to engage me in conversation. I could have easily left, but I made the decision to stay so I could keep my eyes on him.

The bartender came by to check on us and Daniel ordered an amaretto sour. Curious, I decided to give one a try. When the bartender turned to me, I pointed to Daniel and replied, "I'll have the same."

He brought us our drinks, and Daniel quickly chugged his drink right in front of the bartender. He asked the bartender for another drink and I heard him say the word "stronger" as he pointed to the glass. I kept my eyes on my phone and took a quick sip to see what it tasted like. It was actually pretty good, having a hint of sourness to it. I drank the rest of it in one long gulp.

When the bartender returned with Daniel's second drink, I ordered another one. In my periphery, I watched him pull out his phone and open up his text messages. I quickly glanced and saw he was reading texts from Addy. He sat and scrolled silently as he drank his second drink a bit slower. A single tear rolled down his cheek, and he wiped it off. I actually started to feel bad for the guy.

The bartender brought me my second drink and we sat there silently, me pretending to look at my phone and him scrolling through the long stream of texts from Addy. It was clear to see that they all had gone unanswered. He called the bartender over and ordered a third drink. He then turned toward me and said, "And a third one for the young man sitting next to me, too."

After the bartender brought our third round, he raised his glass to me and said in a slight slur, "Here's to stupidity, and to the women who drive us to it." He then chugged the drink and slammed the glass back down on the bar. "I'll have another, please," he told the bartender. He chugged his fourth drink and continued to scroll through the texts. After several minutes of reading the texts, he tucked his phone into his pocket and pulled out his wallet. "Can you add this to my room tab?" he asked as he left a tip.

"Sure," the bartender replied as he looked at him with concern. It was clear Daniel was a bit tipsy. "Are you planning on going anywhere tonight?" I could tell the bartender was afraid that Daniel might try to get behind the wheel of a car. I was, too.

"Nah. Just back to my room. I'm a boring guy. Just ask my wife--correction, ex-wife." He slurred. He stepped down from the barstool, losing his balance a little.

"Hey, you okay?" I asked instinctively.

"Yeah, I'll be fine," he replied. He then took two steps and stumbled on his feet, grabbing the back of an empty barstool to steady himself. The bartender pointed to the barstool and suggested he wait a bit to sober up.

"I think I'll sit," he slurred. "The drinks don't seem to be mixing well with my medication." He sat back down next to me and the bartender brought him a glass of water. Out of the blue, Daniel started laughing. He looked at me and said, "Whatever you do, son, don't ever underestimate a woman. You'll end up getting your heart torn out and handed to you."

He then began to stare at me. "Wait a minute--I know you! Yeah! You're one of Addy's students, aren't you? With that group B--B . . ."

"BTS."

"Yeah! You're with Beatssss!" He chuckled and slapped me on the back. "Hey, do you guys have any idea how lucky you are to have her? She's the best." He then turned and looked at his glass of water. He took a sip and then continued, "You seem to understand English. Do you think there's any chance you'll be done with her any time soon? I want her back."

"We still have a lot to learn, sir. English is hard."

"Aww, come on. Help a guy out. You see, I need her to come back to Colorado with me."

"Back to Colorado?" I raised my eyebrows.

"Yeah. I mean, this--this is between you and me, right?" I nodded, confirming my willingness to be discreet. "You see, Addy says she met some other guy. Any chance you know who he is?"

I stared at him blankly, I wasn't quite sure how to reply.

"Ugh! You're no help." He took another drink of his water. "Lucky bastard. You probably don't even give Addy a second glance. Trust me, you're lucky that you don't have to worry about getting sucked into her trap. When she was your age, she was a hot piece of ass. As far as I'm concerned, she still is. God, she's beautiful."

From what I understood, Daniel said that Addy was hot and beautiful. On that, we both agreed. He pulled out his phone and started looking at pictures of her. "Just look at her." He showed me a picture of her in an ivory wedding gown. It was satin, with lace sleeves and trim, and had a long train. She was holding a large bouquet with ivory lilies. Addy looked so young--like a teenager--and so pretty.

"Pretty," I responded.

"You know, she made that gown."

"Really?!" I said, surprised. I had no idea Addy could sew. I only knew she could knit because of Taehyung's scarf.

"There's a lot to Addy I bet you boys don't know," he sniffed, wiping a couple of stray tears from his face. He tucked his phone back in his pocket and stepped back down off of the barstool. "I think I'm going to head back to my room."

Daniel wobbled a bit as he walked, so I quickly paid my tab and offered to help walk with him to his room to make sure he got there okay. As we exited the restaurant, Yoongi was standing there. He followed me as I walked with Daniel, and I talked to him in Korean so Daniel wouldn't understand.

"What are you doing here, Yoongi?"

"Same thing as you, I guess. I'm making sure Addy is safe and that Daniel doesn't cause trouble. I saw Addy leave and I was waiting to make sure Daniel didn't go after her."

"Yeah, me too. He stayed behind and got drunk. Now I'm making sure he makes it back to his room."

Daniel continued to stagger as he walked. Together, Yoongi and I led him onto the elevator. "Floor, sir?" Yoongi asked him.

He stuck his hand in his pocket and fumbled around, pulling out his room key card. "Fourth floor," he replied. "You all sure are polite," he commented. "I notice you all say "sir" a lot. I like that."

"So, I take it that things didn't end well between them? Or, at least for him?" Yoongi asked as the elevator doors closed.

"Daniel wants Addy to go back to Colorado with him. Addy told him she doesn't want to be married to him anymore. She told him goodbye and left."

"Good for her," Yoongi commented.

The elevator doors opened on the fourth floor and we helped walk Daniel down the hall. "What room, sir?" I asked him.

"Room 406," he slurred. "Sorry to cause you guys so much trouble. I don't drink very often anymore, plus with my medication, I guess it hit me harder than I thought it would." He fumbled a little as he tried to stick the keycard in to open the door, so I helped him. He opened the door and walked in.

"Are you going to be okay, sir?" Yoongi asked.

"Yeah, I'll be okay," he replied, turning around to look at us. "Hey, you guys do me a favor, okay? Be good to Addy. Take care of her for me. She deserves to be happy."
