"left, right, right, duc- no mia" cain called

but i made another mistake

he has been teaching me boxing for the past hour i believe

"again" he moved the cushioned pad towards my face, signaling that i need to duck

but i let it hit me in the face, causing my body to collapse

"mia, you okay?" he stood over my body that was laid out on the floor

that honestly didn't hurt as bad as i thought it would

"i'm great" i huffed, with sweat dripping down my body and burning lungs

"okay, let's take a break" he threw me over his shoulder

walking somewhere

some of the trainees were laughing at me, of course

but i was too tired to care

he sat me down on a chair, reaching into his bag

he dipped a towel in ice water, then placed it on my forehead

i exhaled, at the cool sensation

"we are no where near finished" he reminded me of the hell i just escaped

handing me a cup of water

and i drank it like it was my last drink before death

which it probably is

"how do you say i love you in italian?" i heard a familiar voice ask

"Ti voglio bene" i heard Dante respond

i saw him walking into the arena with Elena

"Ti volvo bean" she said, not sounding a bit close to what he just said

but he pretended that it was perfect

"we're leaving" cain said, grabbing our bags

i've never been more grateful for Elena

he grabbed my hand, walking out of the building

"how do you feel?" cain walked into my room, sitting on my bed

"tired" i sat back in my bed

when he tossed something on my lap

"put that on and meet me outside" he walked out of the room

a bikini?

"do you not understand the meaning of being tired?" i yelled, trying to communicate through a closed door

"whatever i'm not going" i layed back on my bed, throwing the bikini aside

"twenty"

i heard someone yell from outside of my window

"what the hell?"

"eighteen "

i looked out my window, to see him yelling a count down by the pool

"sixteen"

"i can't change into a bikini in fifteen seconds" i yelled

"fourteen"

"okay i'm coming" i quickly threw off my clothes, grabbing the bikini

and changing into it

"nine"

"for fucks sake" i yelled, running down the stairs

i ran outside by the pool

"negative five" he turned towards me

"the human timer part  wasn't very romantic" i adjusted the bra part of my bikini

"can you swim?" he walked towards me

"what kind of question is that? Of cour-" by the time i attempted to finish that sentence i was in the pool

"cain" i yelled, swimming to the edge

"element of surprise, plenty of that in the mafia"

"be prepared at all times"

is this more training?

"swimming is great for arm, leg, and core strength"

i'm going back to bed

i walked away from the pool edge, heading towards the door

"i knew you wouldn't be able to keep up with me" he chuckled, walking around the pool edge

i turned around slowly

"excuse me? i'm very capable of keeping up" i walked back to the pool

jumping in

"i knew you could do it" he chuckled, sitting at the edge of the pool

"wait, you said that i couldn't keep up with you"

he raised an eyebrow

"was that to get me to come back?"

he nodded his head

"ohhh"

i could have been in my bed

"wait, i have a leg cramp" i held my leg, pretending that it was hurting

"are you able to get out of the pool?" he stood up, walking over to my side of the pool

i discreetly pushed myself towards the deep end, flailing my arms and legs

splashing water around

"help" i yelled, pretending to drown

he kicked his shoes off, jumping into the deep end

in the blink of a eye, a strong pair of arms gripped my waist pulling me to the surface of the water

he swam to the edge, propping his leg against the pool wall

sitting me on his leg

"are you okay?" he asked, patting my back

i couldn't help but to laugh a little

"what's funny?" he huffed, catching his breath and confused

"my leg is fine, look" i lifted it in the water

"mia, don't play like that" he protectively yelled

but i smiled, as he wiped the wet hair from my face

our faces were close together

the moon beautifully displaying itself in the dark sky

the decorative lights, beautifully illuminating the area

and the only noise being the sound of chirping and water moving around

he slid his hand behind my neck, gently brushing the area

then pressed his lips against mine

slowly taking turns sucking my bottom and
top lip

i wrapped my arms around his neck, running my fingers through the back of his hair

his finger slowly caressed the side of my face

our kiss broke apart when fireworks colored the sky

and my family was cheering loudly inside the house

"Happy New Year, amore"

"Happy New Year" i replied, leaning back towards his lips
