(chapter 4) ғᴀɪʀʏᴛᴀʟᴇs

Katie narrates: The first rule of fairytales is to tell your child that what they see on television is true, give them hope, and then take it away from them.

[At Ria House]

The police and Carlos start to question Ria's whereabouts: "So where were you during this time?" "I was sleeping." Ria said, crossing her arms, that she couldn't believe they were questioning her. "No, what happened?" says Carlos. Ria states, "I don't know, because I was sleeping; I woke up to her hanging from the ceiling." "Was she doing anything last?" He asks the question again. Ria starts to remember the laptop; her mom was on it before she went upstairs, but she tells them "no." Carlos puts down the notepad and states, "Well, it's safe to say this was a suicide."

Ria feels the anger rise in her, and she yells, "How in the hell does this look like a suicide? My mom wouldn't shoot herself and hang herself from the ceiling!" With the words, her eyes welled up. "Listen up, kid, you're old enough," Carlos says as he places his hand on her shoulder. "And I believe you, but sometimes people get depressed." He walks away from her. She felt like the police were helpless; this wasn't a suicide; someone had to hack Victech.

(on the plane)
[In Canada]

Hugo lands the plane and walks to the seating area, saying, "Wake up! Rise and shine; we're in Canada." Dan replied, "How are we even going to get her out here without looking suspicious?" Johnny couldn't sleep, so he grabbed his suitcase right away. Vanessa quickly comes up with an idea: "Obviously, you carry her to the car, buckle her up like she's sleeping, and we drive to this house I rented." Dan pulls her in for a kiss and says, "Sweetheart, have I ever told you how much I appreciate you?" He kisses her, Vanessa pulls away, and she states, "No, you haven't, but you can make it up to me by getting my luggage." Johnny rolls his eyes at the two of them and walks out with his bag.

(School)
Anna asked Cody to meet her outside the school, and since last night, he honestly couldn't get her out of his mind. She excitedly hugs him; he hugs her back, and she says, "So I called you here for a surprise." He replies, "I'm suspended; I shouldn't be here; I could get in real trouble." For a split second, she thought he was serious before he laughed, "But I'm always in trouble."

She smiled at him and said, "Come on." She takes his hand and walks him inside. It was dark, much to his surprise, and it didn't help his anxiety; it made him somewhat panic, but then the lights turned on, and everyone jumped out with confetti and Katie's face on their t-shirts that said "We miss you." Cody stands there, his mind racing; he sees her face everywhere and feels as if he can't breathe. This couldn't be the end; his sister couldn't be dead, he thinks.

Sam says, "Guess there's no one to save you." The words go slower in Cody's head. Sam mocks him behind his back, and Lily and her friends fake apologize, saying, "We're so sorry." Fiona joins in: "She will be missed." Cody shouts in tears, "Stop!" Everyone gets quiet and stares. He runs outside, and everything begins to go fast now. Anna follows him and says, "Where are you going?" "Home... "Really, Anna, this was your idea of fun: throwing a party about my sister missing and putting her face on some stupid shirt, as if it's something to celebrate; I wasn't even ready to tell school about it, but I trusted you," Cody says. Anna felt bad; all she wanted to do was be there for him. She replies, "And that's why I did it; I wanted you to feel supported."

Cody pulls out a cigarette and lights it to help with his anxiety and asserts, "Well, it didn't work, cause those people weren't even her friends; they were just fake; they don't care about her, and now we're celebrating her death without knowing she's dead. Next time, just write glad she's dead and use uppercase letters." He smokes the cigarette and starts to walk away; Anna screams, "Wait, Cody." He keeps walking, and she looks down.

[At Colton's house]
Mily panics, and she calls Cody and gets sent to voicemail for the fifth time: "Hey, it's Cody; if I don't answer, don't call back." Arthur puts his hand on Mily's shoulders in comfort and says, "Honey, you have to calm down; he's only been gone for 30 minutes." "I've calmed down FOR KATIE, AND LOOK WHERE SHE'S AT ARTHUR, WE LOST OUR BABYGIRL," Mily says, shaking off his hands. Arthur grabs her hand and kisses them, then states, "I know, I know, but if you keep doing this, we may push away the only one we have left." I know you're scared; it's okay to be." Mily holds his hands as she pouts, "I'm sorry."
