chapter 24, (chess pt2)

When pawns are captured, Katie tells the story.

(the cage room)
Carlos is sitting down with his arms resting on his knees. As he says, "It must be hard being Dan's bitch," the guard looks at the cage and replies, "Excuse me." Ria looks at Carlos out of curiosity; she had no idea why he was doing it. These people killed her mom; surely they will kill anyone in the way. Carlos states, "You know, doing whatever your daddy says." Cody quickly realizes Carlos is provoking the guard as he chimes in, "Carlos, I don't think." He is immediately cut off by the guard, who hisses at the cage in anger as he asserts, "You know, the boss wouldn't mind if I killed you right now." Carlos stands up, and while articulating "great, open the cage and do it" without an ounce of fear in his eyes, the guard laughs out, "You think I'm dumb because I'm American, el hombre, I'll just shoot your ass through the cage." Carlos smiles and adds, "still waiting..." The guard quickly lifts his guard towards Carlos, and Ria quickly stands up as he isn't ready to lose anyone else. She grabs his arm slightly and whispers, "Carlos, stop it!" Cody joins in, "You're going to get killed." Right before the guard attempts to pull the trigger, he falls to the ground from a bullet flying through his head.

Begin the gun Carlos realizes it's amber, but his brain can't comprehend what to say, as he just witnessed someone get murdered. Ria states, "Amber Vuitton." Carlos swallows that slight confusion and chimes in, "Amber, what are you doing here?" Amber replies, "Don't mention it." Cody and Ria look at each other in confusion, as they didn't know what a millionaire was doing saving them; they'd seen her in shows, movies, and even award shows. How did she even know Carlos? Ria asserts, "How do you know each other? Aren't you like a model, actress, and occasionally hostess?" Amber smiles as she is flattered; they are star-struck. Carlos replies, "Ria, meet my ex-wife and mother of my child." They stood there shocked, as Amber and Carlos continued talking. Carlos states, "How did you get here?" Amber says, "Well, remember that gun they gave you at the station?" He nods, "Yeah, why?' She asserts, "They put a tracker on it in case of a cop emergency where they are in danger." Cody looks at Ria as she whispers, "Can you believe Carlos ex-wife is Amber Vuitton?" Ria shakes her head, "No, no."


Carlos added, "We'll discuss that... I thought you didn't care about me." Amber looks Carlos in the eyes. For a second, she felt the way she did when they were kids-how much his brown eyes held his entire personality-the dominance yet sweetness; he was the type of guy that was protective but understood you could protect yourself. That's what she loved about him, but she shakes those feelings and says, "I don't, but anything for my daughter; also, your girlfriend's here; she's going to get herself caught purposely." Carlos sighs, "and you didn't talk her out of it." She crosses her arms and states, "Carlos, why would your girlfriend listen to your ex-wife?" Carlos agrees, "Good point," Amber says, checking the guard's pocket for the keys. As she states, "shit he doesn't have the keys; clearly we didn't think this through." Carlos replies, "Leave before they catch you."

Katie narrates, "they usually remain captured."

(In the safe room.)
Izzy walks into the room where Dan, Willo, and Haylee appear to be. She takes out her weapons and says, "So you're the famous Dan." Dan sighs as he has a long day and replies, "I'll love to give you an autograph, but I'll let my girls do it." Willow firstly can only think about how he called her his girl; this was the first time she spent with her dad in 18 years. Willow throws a punch at Izzy, but Izzy easily grabs that arm and knees her into the stomach as she flips her over. Haylee then tries to kick her, but Izzy catches her leg and swings her into the wall. As she knew the two girls didn't stand a chance, she walks to Dan with a smile, forgetting Willow was on the floor, so Willow grabs her leg and makes her fall. She falls on her back, heading her head slightly, and tries to shake Willow off her leg, but she can't. Then Haylee hovers over her and starts to punch her repeatedly until she is unable to open her eyes and her nose is bleeding. Izzy then holds up her hand to let her know to stop. Haylee stops, and Izzy breathes deep, gasping in pain as she says, "You win!"

The second guard who was outside the door just waiting for Dan's command, when he hears Dan shout, "Code 3," he immediately comes in and drags Izzy to her feet by her arm as he throws her into the room with a cage, not even acknowledging the room, just immediately locking the door. Carlos runs to Izzy and uses his shirt to wipe the blood off her nose. He says with slight anger but mostly worrisome, "Why would you do that?" She replies, gasping for air as she coughs, "We have a plan... And also, I wanted to tell you in case you never made it back." He cuts her off with a kiss, as she states, "I know, I love you too." Izzy kisses back and jokingly asserts, "Actually, I was going to say I brought beach concert tickets. But sure, that too." He smiles at her as she kisses him again and smiles back.
