Ya-hoo boos! So the author note is going to be at the beginning of the chapter today because there's a couple things I want to address in the writing.

First off, this chapter is written to match the specific time and lyrics of the song What Could Have Been from Arcane. You can find it on Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube, or pretty much anywhere. But please please please read this chapter with that music of you are able to. It took me a lot of time and effort to write it like this and it evokes more feelings this way so if you are able to, please read it with the song. In the chapter, I'll let you know when to start listening to the song!

Along with that, I wrote the chapter to go with the music and there are lyrics in the text that should line up with the ones in the song. I realize that not everyone reads at the same speed so I apologize but I think it'll be really cool if it works right.

If you enjoyed the music that goes along with the text idea or have any thing you think that could make it work better, please let me know!!!

I hope you guys enjoy this chapter and I hope you all have the most wonderful week ever. Be kind to people, and remember you all are so amazing and so loving and deserve only the best. Take care of your mind and your body for me and be sure to get lots of rest. I love you all to the moon and back!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Atsumu walked out onto the ice to a tumultuous applause. Despite the panic and anxiety that was slowly building up inside him he couldn't help but grin, waving around the stands to the supporters.

While they announced him and his background he scanned the crowd for his brother, Suna, and Sakusa. After a few seconds he spotted them at the edge of the rink that was roped off for family only. He let out a relieved breath when they smiled at him and waved, Atsumu giving a thumbs up back.

And then...

"So, without further adieu, Atsumu Miya!" the announcer called enthusiastically.

Atsumu got into starting position and closed his eyes and for the single moment of silence, he felt completely grounded. It was just him, the music and the ice. Nothing else mattered.

Then, the first sounds of piano in What Could Have Been start and Atsumu breathes out.

(Start the song now)

Atsumu swirls around, his skates making almost no sound on the ice. Skating backwards in graceful, flowing motions. He glides, the music guiding him, flowing through his whole body.

He slowly spins, the lights catching his costume at the right angle and reflecting fiery spots of light all across the ice. Atsumu threw his arms over his head and bent backwards, the curve of his body matching that of what he was skating, creating soft loops everywhere.

"I hope you know we had everything" the music echoed across the stadium, sending chills up everyone's spines.

They all looked on in awe as Atsumu bent low and lightly ran his fingers across the cold, hardened ground he moved effortlessly around on. He picked up speed a little and, still using flowing motions, moved gracefully into a layback spin.

"What could have been." reverberated off the walls and ice, an unworldly melody, causing everyone's hearts to race in harmony. "What could have been."

The music suddenly picked up, Atsumu moving faster and faster along with it. Skates scratching grooves into the ice. Leaping into the air, he landed a double axel, gliding right out of it and into a soft turn.

He went on, eyes closed, breathing steadily. The blond skated backwards swiftly, with the curve of the end of the rink. He started a camel spin and transitioned smoothly into a biellmann spin, twirling so fast he was just a blazing blur. He turned sharply off one foot, with loops following the move combination.

All of his movements were strung together, flowing beautifully and evenly. Atsumu picked up his leg and grabbed his skate, bringing his leg up above his head into a straight line and then an over split.

The music swelled, violin filling the rink and everyone's senses. It got quicker and quicker and Atsumu matched his movements, his heart pounding.

This was it.

This was the moment that mattered most.

It was now or never.

He pushed himself forward, moving at rapid speed, preparing himself. Willing himself wings, just this once. His whole body filled with tension and adrenaline, he launched himself off the ice, backwards into the air as the music peaked, reaching it's swelling moment.

"I hope you know we had everything." the music sang tragically.

Time seemed to stop.

Nothing mattered after this moment.

Atsumu was frozen there, a few feet above the ice, nothing holding him up besides his will and the heavens. He had worked so hard, so tirelessly for this. He knew Sakusa was out there in the stands, watching him as though his life depended on it.

Suspended there in mid air, the blond could almost picture the boy he loved. From his curly black hair, to his perfect pale skin. He could picture his hands clasped in front of him, his eyebrows scrunched in worry and anxiety.

But then it came to Atsumu. If he didnt make this, life would go on. If he didnt make this, he would still be loved.

In that moment, that singular second, Atsumu knew he would do anything for that boy.

And he knew he had to tell him.

"What could have been."

Atsumu landed hard on the ice and skidded to his ending pose. He was standing.

He was still standing.

There was a moment of silence before the crowd roared with applause. People screamed his name, all cheering and banging their feet, but he could only look at one person.

Sakusa stood there at the edge, tears in the corner of his eyes and his hands over his mouth. Atsumu skated as fast as he could towards the nearest exit of the rink and Sakusa fought through a crowd to meet him there, Suna and Osamu trailing behind him.

Atsumu stepped off the ice and wobbled a bit but before he lost his balance, Sakusa was hugging him tightly around his waist and nothing mattered anymore because Atsumu was hugging the boy he loved back and burying his face in the taller's shoulder.

"You did it, you did it, you did it. Oh my god you were so beautiful I couldn't take my eyes away." Sakusa whispered into Atsumu's hair.

"It's you, I did it because of you. You mean the absolute world to me and I couldn't have done it without you." Atsumu whispered back.

After a moments pause Sakusa spoke up again.
"Atsu, can I kiss you?" he asked quietly and tentatively.

Atsumu just started at him with wide eyes filled with tears before grabbing his face between his hands and kissing him softly.
