Two Months Later

"M'kay Atsu, you ready?" Sakusa asked, off to the side and holding his phone out with his thumb hovering over the play button on the screen.

It had been two months since Atsumu landed his first backflip. Two months of waking up, classes, practice, coffee, late nights at the rink, sweat, bruises, and working. Two months of sheer willpower and effort put into every moment on the ice, every movement.

After a while, nighttime practices with Sakusa became a daily thing. It was a schedule now. Atsumu got back from classes, got something to eat, did homework, and went to the rink with Omi. But it all came down to this.

The finals. The championship.

Between Atsumu and Nezari.

Tomorrow.

"Yeah, I'm ready." Atsumu replied, a determined look on his face.

Sakusa started the music and Atsumu went through the routine they had been perfecting for the last two months. Calmly shutting his eyes and spinning and twirling and leaping to the beat of the music.

Finally, reaching one end of the rink, his golden eyes snapped open, full of concentration, and he started his approach. Swifty, fast as a bullet, he sped up and crouched, springing off the ice in a high, graceful arch in the air, soaring backwards.

He landed with a hard chink on the ice and swooped in a circle to steady the landing, finishing out the routine with a couple more leaps. The music stopped and he looked up grinning at the other boy who had both his arms in the air and was grinning back.

"Damn, you amazing me every time." he said, breaking the silence.

"Ah! I did it! I actually feel confident for once! God, I can't believe we've made it this far."

"You've made it this far." Sakusa corrected him.

"No, we made it this far. I could never have done this without you Omi. Never. Not in a million years. You kept me going, kept me sane, kept me healthy. I owe you everything." The blond said, squeezing his best friend around the waist fondly. Sakusa just laughed and hugged him back, the two rocking side to side together.

"Okay, now bedtime. You need plenty of rest before tomorrow. It's a big day." the black haired male said, heading for the edge of the rink so take his skates off.

Atsumu stood there for a second before shaking his head violently and following the other.

"Yes yes, Omi. It's uh... a big day." he said, trying to mask the shake in his voice.

The two unlaced their skates and headed for Sakusa's car which was parked in the same spot it always was. It was quiet on the way home, the taller noticing this right away. Atsumu's normal spout of positive, funny remarks was silent, and Sakusa knew why. After being close with Atsumu for a while now, he knew most of his moods pretty well.

"Oi," he said into the silence, "you're gonna be fine. Okay? Have I ever lied to you?"

"... no," Atsumu said in a small voice.

"Right. So I want you to trust me when I say you're gonna do amazing things tomorrow." he replied, making Atsumu smile softly and nod.

They pulled into the blond's apartment parking lot and Sakusa parked, looking at the other who looked pale as a ghost.

"Omi," he said, looking at the other with wide, golden eyes that reflected the night sky, "will you stay the night tonight?"

This wasn't unusual for the two. A few times over the past couple months Sakusa would spend the night at Atsumu's or vice versa. It mostly happend on nights like tonight, when Atsumu was on the brink of an anxiety attack. The two were always there to comfort each other.

"Sure Atsu. I don't mind." Sakusa said, turning the car off and getting out.

The pair walked to the Apartment door, Atsumu unlocking it and walking inside. Osamu and Suna were sitting on the couch and watching a movie together.

"Hey, you two back?" Osmau called out.

"Yep. Hey Samu, Omi is gonna... gonna spend the night tonight cause uh... cause I'm a bit nervous about um. About tomorrow." Atsumu said. At his brother's words Osamu turned around, looking worriedly at him.

"Yeah, of course. Whatever you need, Tsumu. Hey, you'll be amazing tomorrow, I know it, okay? Don't worry too much." he said, nodding to his twin and the taller male.

They walked to Atsumu's room and got ready for bed. Sakusa walked back from the bathroom where he had just brushed his teeth to find Atsumu taking deep breaths with his head in his hands.

Wordlessly, Sakusa led Atsumu to lay down and he turned off the light, laying down next to him and opening his arms to the shorter who cuddled into them.

"Hey," he said finally, "you amaze me everyday. I've never seen Nezari skate but I can't even begin to imagine anyone who moves the way you do. Tomorrow is big, yeah, but it's nothing you can't handle because I've seen you face harder things head on. And you know what, if we get home after the finals and it didn't go how we wanted it to, your brother will still love you, and your friends will still love you, and I will still be so damn proud of you. Nothing will have changed. So try not to worry too much and get some rest, Atsu."

"Thank you Omi. You don't know how much you mean to me." Atsumu said before yawning and falling asleep.

Sakusa lay there in the dark, the sleeping boy in his arms, thinking. He would do anything for Atsumu. He just hoped that Atsumu knew that he would stick by his side. No matter what.
