2 years later

The clean air bristled through the white curtains hovering over the windows and tossed through my thick (h/c) hair. It was a windy day, though sunny.

The light humming of my mother could be heard as she combed through my hair, a tune that was only sung to me as a child.

I looked in the mirror, clean, and beautiful. I began to hum along with my mother as I pinned together the new earrings I had bought for this special occasion. My mothers smile widened as we hummed together in perfect bliss.

The vanity before me held various makeup products and the couch behind us held a happy nappy, human Nezuko. One arm hanging off the couch and the other laid against her face, drool pooling out of her wide open mouth. I couldn't help but let out a chuckle at the scene. I could hardly remember a time where she sat in a box all day, everyday.

"There." My mother said, putting the wooden comb down onto the vanity. "Your hair is finally out of knots." She dusted her hands and folded her arms together as she turned around and looked at Nezuko. "Now to get this girl child ready"

Nezuko, my maid of honor.

Mom pinched her nose to wake her up and she sat up straight with a strong yelp Zenitsu most likely heard from the other room. It was quite an argument between Tanjiro and I when we had to decide which side Zenitsu would be on.

I sighed as the sleeves on my white wedding kimono were shifting loosely on my arms. Standing up, I took a good look at myself. The hat was not it for the Taisho styled wedding, so I decided to leave my hair natural with a simple do.

I couldn't help but blush when thinking about the man in the next room. My soon to be husband, Tanjiro.

I was soon to be Kamado (Y/n)

I almost wanted to bounce for joy but of course to my mothers standards I'm 'too mature for that kind of behavior.' So in its place I clapped my hands together.

"Nezuko let's go, it's time to get ready! Nap time is over." I said, turning to look at her rubbing her nose.

She wiped away the tears brimming to her eyes the moment she realized I was done getting ready. Her eyes started shining upon seeing me in my wedding attire.

"You look beautiful!" She yelled.

"Quiet! Zenitsu can hear you!"

We then heard an awkward loud cough in the other room.

"You look beautiful." She said again, but this time in a whisper.

Kanao entered the room, my bouquet of flowers in hand as she smiles softly at me. "She is quite right about that. Tanjiro is not going to be able to hold it together."

It amazed me how time could change feelings. Kanao, someone who I had once saw as a rival, became one of my best friends.

The air in the room felt light and full of anticipation as I looked back at my reflection, trying to suppress my excitement. But it was hard—today was the day.
The thought of Tanjiro waiting for me just down the hall made my heart race. He was everything I had ever dreamed of and more. Strong, kind-hearted, always putting others before himself... and now, he was about to become my husband.
"Ready, (Y/n)?" My mother's voice broke me from my thoughts, and I turned to see her smiling softly, a slight glimmer of tears in her eyes. "You're all grown up now," she said, her voice thick with emotion.
I smiled and nodded, feeling a swell of affection for her. "Thank you, Mom."
The moment was interrupted by a loud thunk, followed by the sound of Nezuko groaning as she finally made her way to her feet. "Ugh, I'm up, I'm up!" she muttered, rubbing the sleep from her eyes as she grabbed for the kimono laid out for her.
In the distance, I heard Zenitsu shouting excitedly, his voice squeaky with the enthusiasm he often couldn't contain. "You're really getting married today?! This is going to be the most amazing wedding! Tanjiro, you're gonna—"
A loud thud followed by an annoyed grunt cut him off. Zenitsu had probably tripped over his own feet again. I couldn't help but laugh, even if I had to be quiet to avoid any further noise.
"Zenitsu's already in a frenzy, huh?" Nezuko smiled, her gaze softening when she saw me. "I think you're going to make him cry. He's got a thing about weddings, you know."
"Let him cry," I teased. "Maybe he'll finally leave Tanjiro alone for a moment."
Nezuko snorted, her eyes twinkling mischievously, before going over to her dressing area to change into her maid of honor kimono. It was a soft lavender color with intricate floral patterns. I was so thankful she'd agreed to be my maid of honor, especially after everything we'd been through together.
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door, and before I could respond, a familiar voice shouted from the other side.
"Hey, hey! Are we all ready?!" Zenitsu's voice trembled with excitement, and I couldn't help but chuckle.
"Hold your horses, Zenitsu! You can't come barging in here," I called back.
"Come on, Tanjiro is dying to see you!" he insisted. "I can barely keep him from running down the aisle himself!"
There was another knock, but this time it wasn't Zenitsu. Instead, a more gruff voice echoed through the door.
"Inosuke's here," came the growl from the other side. The door flew open without warning, revealing Inosuke standing proudly in a traditional wedding kimono, but without his signature boar hat. His wild, untamed hair flared out in every direction as he glared at all of us. "I had to wear this dumb thing because of you, (Y/n), but don't think I like it!" he growled.
I snorted in amusement. "You've been complaining about it for hours, Inosuke. Just... be a little more civilized today. For me?"
Inosuke puffed out his chest, putting his hands on his hips. "Fine, but only because it's your wedding day." He grumbled under his breath, clearly uncomfortable. "This is the weddin', right? With the vowings and the dancin'?"
I raised an eyebrow, trying to keep from bursting into laughter. "Yes, Inosuke, the 'weddin'.' But vows, not 'vowings,' and—" I bit my lip, trying not to correct him further. He meant well.
Zenitsu's voice rang out again from the hallway, growing more frantic with each passing second. "I have to see her! Please, I'm going to explode if I don't get a peek at her at least one time-!"
I turned to Nezuko, who was just finishing up with her kimono. "Nezuko, can you please keep him out there? I'm trying to get some peace before the chaos starts."
Nezuko smiled, but I could see a playful spark in her eyes. "Zenitsu's been sneaking peeks since the moment we got here," she whispered, heading over to the door. "I'll handle him. But only if you promise me one thing."
I looked at her, confused. "What's that?"
"Don't let Tanjiro see you yet," Nezuko said, her voice teasing, though I could tell she was enjoying the moment. "I think he might pass out."
I laughed softly, nodding. "That was the plan."
As Nezuko handled Zenitsu, I stood by the window, quietly breathing in the moment. Tanjiro was waiting for me. I could feel the weight of it, but in the best way possible. There was no turning back now, and I was ready.
Moments later, Nezuko came back, rolling her eyes. "Zenitsu is a mess. He kept talking about how beautiful you're going to look, and he even said he might faint before the ceremony." She smirked. "You really have him wrapped around your finger, huh?"
I chuckled softly. "He's impossible."
There was a knock on the door once again, and this time it wasn't Zenitsu. It was someone else who didn't want to disturb me—Tanjiro. But his voice, soft and tentative, came from the other side.
"(Y/n)?" His voice cracked slightly. "I—I'm sorry to bother you, but I just wanted to... well, I just wanted to say that I'm really nervous."
My heart skipped a beat. Tanjiro, nervous? He was always so steady, so strong. But hearing the uncertainty in his voice made me smile, and I placed my hand on the door, silently reaching out to him.
"I'm nervous too," I whispered back, though I wasn't sure if he could hear me.
"I just... I want today to be perfect for you," he said, his voice low but filled with sincerity. "I don't want to mess this up."
"Tanjiro," I murmured softly. "It's already perfect. And... I'm not going anywhere. You don't have to worry."
There was a long pause, and I could hear the shuffle of his feet as he seemed to take a deep breath on the other side of the door.
"Okay, I'm going to try my best to wait for the ceremony," Tanjiro said, almost sounding like he was talking to himself as much as me. "But I—I just want to see you. You look so beautiful, (Y/n). I can't wait to marry you."
"You can see me?" I raised an eyebrow.
"Well no- but I'm imagining you." He had said slyly.
I smiled as I pressed my hand against the door, knowing he was doing his best to honor the tradition of not seeing the bride before the ceremony, even if it was difficult for him.
"You're going to be fine," I said softly. "I'm waiting for you too. We'll meet at the altar, just like we always dreamed."
There was a quiet moment, and then I heard him let out a laugh. "Okay. I'll see you there."
The door clicked shut, and I let out a soft sigh, my heart fluttering. Tanjiro was trying so hard to hold it together, but I knew how much this meant to him. He was as nervous as I was, but he was doing everything he could to respect the moment.
I glanced over at Nezuko, who had a knowing smile on her face. "He's really nervous, huh?"
Nezuko nodded, her smile softening. "He loves you a lot, (Y/n)."
I smiled back, feeling my heart swell. "I love him too."
The ceremony was everything I had dreamed of and more.
As I walked down the aisle, my heart pounded in my chest, my eyes locked on Tanjiro. His face was a picture of nervous joy, a soft blush creeping across his cheeks as he took in the sight of me. I could see how hard he was trying to hold it together, but there was no hiding the look of awe in his eyes as I got closer. Zenitsu, standing beside him, was trying to look composed, but I caught him glancing at Nezuko with an odd mixture of admiration and panic.
Inosuke, on the other hand, was practically bouncing in place, probably wishing he could tear the whole ceremony apart in his usual chaotic way. But even he seemed to understand the significance of the moment and, for once, he was... mostly on his best behavior.
When I finally reached Tanjiro's side, he gently took my hand, his fingers trembling slightly, betraying the nervousness he was still trying to suppress. I smiled softly at him, squeezing his hand in reassurance.
"You look amazing," he whispered, his voice filled with admiration, his eyes searching mine for a moment of peace. His gaze made my heart flutter.
"You do too," I replied, my voice equally as soft, yet full of warmth.
The ceremony itself was a blur. The priest's words felt distant as everything around me seemed to focus on Tanjiro. I could barely hear anything else as I stood next to him, knowing that soon, we'd be bound together forever. I saw Zenitsu wipe his eyes, trying to act tough, and I couldn't help but smile at the way he was always so dramatic. Nezuko gave me a knowing, quiet smile from her position, and I knew in that moment just how much she had grown from the little girl I'd first met.
The vows came, and my voice shook slightly as I spoke the words I had rehearsed a thousand times in my head, but they felt right now, in front of Tanjiro, in front of all of our friends and family.
"I promise to stand by your side," I said, my voice steady now, "no matter the challenges, no matter the days ahead. I will love you with all that I am, always."
Tanjiro's eyes were wide, his lips trembling with emotion. His vow was shorter, but it was heartfelt, and it made my heart swell with love. "I promise to protect you, to be by your side through everything. You're my world, (Y/n). I'll never let you go."
I could see the tears in his eyes, and despite my own, I was smiling—because this was our moment. The promise we were making to each other was more than just words; it was a commitment that would last a lifetime.
Then, the moment came.
The kiss.
Tanjiro leaned in slowly, his gaze lingering on mine for just a second, as if to confirm that this was real. That we were really here, about to share this one last moment before our lives together officially began. He was still nervous, but he was also full of love, and I felt my own breath catch in my throat.
"Are you ready?" he whispered, barely an inch away from me.
I nodded, my heart racing. "Always."
And then, he kissed me.
It was soft at first, almost tentative, as if he was worried that everything would break if he moved too quickly. But when he felt me kiss him back, just as softly, his arms pulled me closer. It was a kiss full of promise, full of everything we had shared up until now and everything we would experience together in the future. I could feel the love radiating off of him, as if all his nervousness had melted away in that one moment.
The crowd cheered, but all I could focus on was Tanjiro. His warmth, his tenderness, his love.
The kiss broke, but neither of us pulled away immediately. Tanjiro rested his forehead against mine, his breath warm and shaky, as if he couldn't quite believe that we were finally here.
"I love you," he whispered, his voice thick with emotion.
"I love you too," I replied, my voice barely a breath, but it carried all the weight of everything we had been through together. "More than anything."
There was a moment of silence before Zenitsu's voice rang out from behind us, still overly dramatic and completely unable to contain himself.
"Finally! I thought you two were never going to kiss!" he yelled, though there was a touch of affection in his voice.
I couldn't help but laugh softly, turning to see Zenitsu's big, sparkling eyes. He was genuinely happy for us, even if he couldn't express it without a bit of his usual over-the-top antics.
Inosuke, standing at the back of the group, let out a loud, exaggerated "Tch!" but I could see the faintest smile tugging at the corners of his lips. "Well, I guess it wasn't completely horrible," he muttered, though the way his hands were balled into fists told me he wasn't quite as unaffected as he wanted to let on.
Nezuko was quieter, but I could see the fondness in her eyes as she looked between us. It made my heart swell—this was the family I had gained. The people who had been with us through thick and thin, and now, they were here with us at this very moment.
As we turned to face the crowd, our hands still tightly entwined, I could feel a sense of peace wash over me. The future was uncertain, but it was also full of promise. And as Tanjiro stood by my side, his presence a calming force in my life, I knew that whatever came next, we would face it together.
The rest of the ceremony passed by in a daze of joy and laughter, and before I knew it, we were standing together, officially married.
And with that, the journey of our life as husband and wife had begun
