Nathan is right on my heels. We fly out of the office and down the stairs in record speeds. Pack members are quick to get out fo the way with no questions.
Nathan runs out the front door. He shifts as soon as his feet hit the grass, not caring to remove his clothes.
I am just about to follow suit, when I smell Claire. I stop quickly, looking around for her.
"Hey you. Pants on fire?" Her sweet voice fills my ears.
Spinning around I see her by door holding a book. Alastair is standing next to her holding a blanket. "Uh, no." I answer.
"Where are you and my crazy brother headed then?" She asks.
I walk up to her and see the book is the one with the legend.
"He remembered something. We was going to go talk to some warriors by the boarder. You know need to make sure all is going well." That lie came out to easy.
Shouldn't be lying at all to mate! Niko growls.
"Oh okay then. Time for me to go in and help the others. See you at dinner time. Be safe." She stands on her tip toes and kisses my cheek.
I watch as she walks back inside the pack house. Alastair looks at me with a raised eyebrow, he must know I just pulled a lie straight out of my ass.
"I will explain later. I need more facts before we tell Claire the truth. This could crush her." I whisper to him.
"It must be important to not tell her, yes." He says.
I simply nod my head.
"I will protect her, while you do as you must. Don't worry Alpha." Alastair says, bowing his head and moving inside.
They are here at their house. Nathan mindlinks me.
I take off to the wood line, taking my clothes off. I shift quickly and grabbing my clothes with my teeth.
Niko pushes us off swiftly, heading for the Bell residents.
The run does not last long before the house comes in sight. Stopping at the tree line, I shift back throwing my clothes on. Walking up to the door, Nathan joins me, having found a pair of shorts.
He stands beside me as I knock on the door. We can hear shuffling around before the door opens.
"Welcome Alpha a pleasure to see you here." Alice says, holding onto the door.
"We came to talk. May we come in?" I seep authority with every word.
She looks back, before bowing her head and opening the door wider for Nathan and myself to step in.
"Please have a seat make yourselves comfortable. Is our reports still coming through?" She asks.
"We are not here to discuss work." I say firmly.
I watch as her smile falters. Alice looks over to Nathan, who is in Beta mood showing no emotions.
"Oh me. What could we possibly help with?" Her voice wobbles.
"Why don't you grab Bill? This is a conversation for the four of us." I don't bother answering her question.
Alice bows her head and leaves the room for a short time. When I hear her walking back into the room, Bill is following behind her.
"Alpha, it is always a pleasure having you in our humble home." Bill bows.
Is it weird they are not saying anything to Beta? Niko questions. I caught that too.
"I wish this was a pleasure meeting. However; we have some questions that need answers. Why don't you both have a seat on the couch. I prefer to stand." The command comes out strong, causing both to drop to the couch.
"Do you both remember the previous pack doctor?" I ask.
Watching their reaction closely, I can see Bill stiffen and Alice turn pale.
"I take the silence as a yes. Why don't you tell me what happened the night from the last blood test? Enlighten me. Claire was the last patient that was seen then the next morning he was found dead." I focus more so on Bill, keeping command in my voice.
"I killed him." Bill replies, hands shaking in fists.
"Why is that?" I ask, keeping my voice steadily with power. Staring him down.
"He found something he had not right to look into." Bill goes to move.
"SIT! DON'T YOU MOVE ANOTHER INCH." I yell out.
I already have warriors on the way. Nathan mindlinks me. I send him a quick thanks before focusing again.
"What that my sister is truly adopted?" Nathan asks, sternly.
They are silent but staring at Nathan. "Answer your Beta's question." I command.
"Yes, I adopted her as my own. She is not biologically mine." Alice answers.
"Explain." Nathan commands for the first time.
"Claire is your half sister." Alice starts to cry.
"Alice and I got a quick divorce a few short months after Nathan was born. We was never true mates, just liked each other and I needed to be in the pack, that was the way in by faking love to Alice. Some rogue came along and was my true mate, and well divorcing Alice we agreed to still acted like mates and never touched again, while I had my true mate. I kept her close once I knew she was carrying my child. I hide her out in a old shack until the child was born. Then brought her home like I found her." Bill answers, spitting and turning red.
"So let me make sure I have this correct. You Bill Bell murdered the previous pack doctor, a pack member, just because he found out that Claire is not Alice's. Why would this be of issue?" I ask.
"No one was to know she was mine by blood! My name would be tainted and I couldn't be thrown out of this pack! You know how it looks when two wolves are together, so we hide our divorce and I hide how sloppy I was with my true mate! Alice is just a good bitch for doing what she is told." Bill growls out.
"Yes they are shunned. I used to look up to you. Now I am ashamed your my father." Nathan's tone drops.
"Bill Bell, I declare as Alpha of Dark River, that you should be moved to the cells as a traitor to this pack for killing one of our own. We will hold a trail for pack members to determine your fate. Alice Bell you will be held within the cells for questioning to how you fit into all of this." I finish this conversation.
I have heard enough for now.
Guards rush in and place silver chains around their wrists, leading them out. I look over to Nathan to see his face blank.
"So which one of us is going to tell Claire?" My voice coming out light.
Nathan blows air out and let's a small laugh out. "Do we really gotta?"
