Chapter 23: Light & Dark

A couple weeks have passed since the incident that happened with Antoine. Let's just say that the guy has a real jealousy issue. Every time Babe comes by, he puffs his chest and act like a tough. Babe, on the other hand, shows off his sweet, cute little boy side that I used to like. He's even nice to me now. The other day, I had a hard time reaching the outlet on the wall because it was too high and Babe immediately rushed to help me. It eventually went to Antoine's ears too. It's a competition between the two of them. They are rivals. It's the cute DJ versus the dark boss. Babe is still dating Brittany though. She must be aware of it by now. I just don't feel like it's my place to tell her.  

I'm trying my best to keep up with the orders right now, working as fast as I can. I'm also trying to ignore the fact that Babe played the song ''My head & my heart'' from Ava Max three times already. Yes, three. Plus, he's singing along to it. 

Babe: My head and my heart are torturing me yeah. Cause my mind in your arms... 

What a DJ. I'm just waiting for Antoine to go and bash him but he's in his office, as usual. As much as he annoys me most of the time, I cannot wait to see what he's going to play next. I just need to act as if I ignore him. 

Joanna: Can I get a AH-Yeah? 

Crystal: What? 

Joanna: Have some fun a little. This job has changed you. You always look so stressed out. 

Crystal: My boss told me something the other day. I don't have the right to dance apparently. 

Joanna: Antoine? Whoa he was probably in a really bad mood that day. He has changed too, something is bothering him. 

Crystal: Apparently. 

In that moment, Babe starts dancing and singing on stage. 

Babe: Hey what's up it's 616 shawty's bad as f*** wearing red lipstick. 

Joanna spits her cosmo. Guess we both didn't see that one coming. He immediately stops when he realizes that his mom is in the same room. She waves at him and he smiles back. 

Joanna: Is he always like this? 

Crystal: He loves to make a show, but usually he doesn't go that hard. 

Joanna: As much as I would like to watch him all night, that's not what I came here for. There's more serious matters. Can you follow me for a second?

I follow Joanna outside for a moment. The air is cold but it's the only place where we can be alone. 

Crystal: What's going on? 

Joanna: You're the only one I can tell about this. It's about my son, Nathan. Malcolm told me the Darkanen are thinking about putting him back on the throne, despite not wanting his title back. 

Crystal: But that's absurd. If he doesn't want it back, what are they gonna do.  

Joanna: They want Malcolm, for his experience. Nathan doesn't spend as much time working for them as Malcolm used to. Nathan is always here and there, doing his own thing. We could almost believe he lives a double life. He doesn't take his role seriously. 

Crystal: Can they just take away his title like that? 

Joanna: He's a royal. It's more complicated than an election, but they don't know that. They're not aware of his identity. 

Crystal: Oh, right... I forgot about that one. So you think they might start some sort of revolution? 

 Joanna: When it comes to the Darkanen, always expect the worst.
