"Guess what?"
"What?"
"Chicken butt."
Jax grumbled under his breath as he fell for Sams trick for the fifth time in just one day. Maggie laughed from her spot in a chair by Sams hospital bed.
"Seriously babe, you've gotta stop letting him trick you." she gave Jax a look. He glared at her and slumped back in his chair.
You may be wondering why they're in the hospital. See it's just because Sam told Mikey he wasn't feeling good and Mikey told Emmy, who told Amanda bc she was babysitting them, who told Nick, who told Jax, who then told Maggie.
She gave the three triplets, especially Sam, boy just didn't want to worry her, which she understood. But she didn't want to take any chances.
"How you feeling bud?" Maggie rubbed Sams arm while he laid down.
"I feel fine." he smiled. "Just a headache."
Maggie's smile fell from her face just as the doctor walked in.
"Um, Miss James can I talk to you in the hall?" she asked politely. Maggie nodded and kissed Sam on the head.
"I'll be right back." she pecked Jax on the lips and then followed the doctor out.
Dr. Greggor held her chart in front of her as they stepped outside.
"Please tell me everything's okay with my baby." Maggie's hands trembled as she spoke.
"Maggie, I'm afraid I have some bad news." Dr. Greggor sighed. Maggie's heart all but fell out of her ass. "Sams condition has slightly worsened over the last few weeks. I'm afraid there's a tumor in his brain."
Maggie's eyes welled up and she looked through the window at her son and Jax. The man was now at his bedside and they were pointing at things outside the window.
"Is there anything you can do?" Maggie asked softly.
"Fortunately for us, we caught it early on. Not early enough for it to be handled with chemo though. We can do a surgery and this surgery would more likely than not take out the tumor."
Maggie had to sit down on a nearby chair and her head fell in her hands.
"W-Will he survive?" she asked.
"Yes he will. He might feel tired and forgetful for a few days after but yes he will." Dr. Greggor nodded.
"It's my fault." Maggie began to sob. "He's been complaining about headaches but the triplets get them all the time. I thought it was just from the TV, that's why I stopped putting it on in the mornings."
"Maggie, you couldn't have known. It's very small and it won't affect him long term. I promise you we will have the most talented surgeons working on your baby."
Maggie could only nod her head but she began sobbing once again. Dr. Greggor did her best to comfort the woman.
"Hey it's okay. We can do the surgery and Sam will be fine." she told Maggie.
"That's the thing." she sniffled and sat up straight. "I can't afford the surgery."

Maggie
"Maggie will you tell me what's wrong?" Jax asked as he walked into my bedroom.
"No." I shook my head. I could never tell Jax. Knowing him he'd want to help me but I need to figure this out myself.
"Baby." he crouched down in front of me. Sadly my eyes were glazed over and he immediately noticed. "Is something seriously wrong with Sam?"
"He has a brain tumor." I admitted quietly. His mouth parted at my words. "There's a surgery that could save his life."
"Well that's great!" he smiled but when I didn't share the same emotion his smile fell. "Right?"
"Jax, I can't afford it." I looked into his eyes. "My insurance doesn't cover it and the money would have to come straight from me, I can barely afford to pay the bills." those tears finally began to fall.
Jax's brows furrowed in sadness. "Let me pay for it."
"No..." I stared at him in disbelief.
"Don't even try that Maggie. Sams life is at stake, I don't care if it cost all the money I have. Let me pay for it." he was squatting between my legs and his arms enclosed around my waist.
"I can't let you do that." I held back a sob. This man means the world to me.
"Yes you can." he cupped my cheeks.
"Jaxon," I stood up, pushing him back. I paced around and ran a hand through my wet hair. "That would be way to much. We're not even officially together and I can't let you just pay thousands of dollars for my son."
"Shut the hell up Maggie. You know damn well you're mine." he grabbed my chin and kissed me. "And I love that little boy so much so I'm going to pay for it. You're family; your kids... mean the absolute world to me."
"You're an amazing man." I cupped his face in my hands. I don't want to completely rely on him but this is my sons life we're talking about.
"I'm glad you think so." he smiled and pecked my lips. "I have to go back to my house for a while."
"When will I be able to see you again?" I asked.
Jax sighed. "I don't know. I might have to fly out to Italy for something."
"Is it your dad?" I asked softly.
Jax nodded and leaned his head on my thighs. "I gotta leave for a bit so my dad doesn't suspect anything with you."
"Why don't you just be honest with him?" I asked.
"Angel, my father is a dangerous man. If he were to find out about you four and my relation with you guys, he would do everything in his power to ruin it."
"Well will you be back by Christmas?" I asked.
"Yeah for sure." he nodded.
"Because um, the triplets wanted me to ask if you want to come with us to my hometown in Texas." I said nervously.
"I'd love to." he smiled at me. That made me smile.
"But I have to warn you my family is a bit pushy and they're not very fond of me." I muttered.
"Then why would you spend your Christmas there?" he asked in confusion.
"Because they want to see the triplets. My dad, he um, passed away when I was fifteen. My mom remarried this man who had two daughters. They treated me and my brother like shit and my mom kinda pushed us to the side." I said sadly. "I had to move out before I had the babies because it was so bad. My brother still lives there and he's really the only reason I still go back there."
"You and your brother close?"
"He's the one person that kept me together after my dad. I practically raised him." i sighed. "I really miss him."
"Well we'll go see him." he smiled. "I gotta get going."
"Okay. Bye, I'll miss you." I kissed his lips.
"I'll miss you too angel."
