I pull my bag onto my shoulder and skip down the stairs. My mum smiles when she sees me and I skid to a halt, knowing the questioning look she has in her eye. Its unavoidable.
"Where are you off to, hun?" She asks affectionately, eyeing my pink cheeks.
"To the twins house." I breathe and she raises an eyebrow.
"Kia and Kit." I elaborate and her expression clears.
She looks down but smiles coyly and I huff.
"What is it?" I ask, walking over to the counter as I watch her carefully.
"You seem to be spending a lot of time at the twin's house recently." She says carefully, focusing on the carrots in front of her and I roll my eyes playfully.
"Kia's my best friend." I say easily and my mum nods.
"And are their parent's always there?" She asks and I nod, my eyebrows creasing together.
"Well then, I think that it's only fair that we get to meet your boyfriend, if his parents have already met you." She says quickly, popping her evenly chopped carrots into a nearby pot.
"Uhm...what?" I ask breathlessly and my mum laughs.
"We're curious! We want to meet the boy that has you pink and excited all the time." She says, gesturing to my face. I blush even more profusely, tilting my head as I hide beneath my hair.
I shake my head, pushing off the counter and heading to the door.
"Invite him round for dinner some time!" My mum calls and I groan.
The whole way to the twins' I am worried. I twist my fingers anxiously, a habit I seem to have picked up from Kit, unsure just how to pitch the idea of dinner with my parents to him.
He's already so much more comfortable with me, but even so, there are moments where he can't quite meet my eye, or when he stutters over a sentence and decides to say nothing at all. I don't ever want to make him feel uncomfortable, seeing him that way, it's not nice, but at the same time I know how important this is to my mum.
I curse myself, wishing I had been a bit more discreet. Maybe then this could have been avoided for a little longer.
I approach the door and decide that I'll just run the idea by him. He can decide if he's ready, or if he wants to wait.
I raise my hand to ring the door bell, but find the door swinging open before I get the chance. Kit's smile is heart-breaking and I automatically fall into his arms. The electricity between us never gets any easier to handle.
I can hear Kia laughing behind us and I pull away, smiling.
I move to her, giving her an enormous hug too.
"You should have seen him, pacing by the window waiting for you to get here." Kia whispers and I laugh.
Kit takes my coat and hangs it up for me as I traipse through to the living room with Kia. It's always a little strange, coming to Kit and Kia's house now, as I feel duty bound to share my company evenly between the two of them.
Kia sits cross legged on the floor whilst I flop down onto the sofa and we try and pick a movie to watch on Netflix.
"I don't feel action-ey today, rom-com?" Kia asks and I make a face.
"What about a comedy?" I ask and she nods, flicking through the selection.
Kit wanders into the living room and settles diagonally into the corner of the sofa next to me. His arm rests on the back of the sofa and I automatically lean back against his chest. He instantly moves his arm down, his hand finding mine as he draws me close.
