Ava's POV

"Sir, I'm afraid I cannot accept this mission. It is right next to the pack my brother and mate are in. I cannot risk exposing myself." I reasoned with the boss.

He thought it would be a good idea to assign me and my partner, Kaden a mission that is in the territory of the Blood Moon pack. Yes, I know everything about this pack. I know who my brother is, I know that my mate is the Alpha, I know all about this.

"As one of the best agents we have, I believe you should have no problem in hiding yourselves from them, right?" He replied.

"Yes, sir, but I don't think we should risk it. Is there any other team that can take the assignment instead?" I asked, trying to give every reason to not go there. I know for a fact that if I see my brother or mate, I will not be able to focus.

"No, actually. The rogues in the area are planning something big, hence we need our best agents on the job. Time is of the essence. Besides, all the other teams have their hands full." He countered.

My jaw dropped. He just won't give up, will he?

"Fine. I'll take the assignment." I grumbled.

"Excellent. I look forward to a job well done." He replied.

I threw my head back in exasperation once I was out of the office.

"No point in trying. We have to get this done soon, Kaden..." I told Kaden.

"Alright. Here's the plan - if there is someone there while we are scouting, then I'll take away their senses. Once we are out, they get it back. This way, no one sees us." Kaden replied.

"That will help, but seeing someone I know from my past is going to mess with my head. I really don't want anything to happen." I said.

Kaden sighed before replying "Well, I'm sorry, but there isn't anything we can do about that. You need to figure this out on your own."

I sighed, knowing he was correct. He was right in saying that I'd have to figure this out on my own. I just hoped seeing someone we knew isn't going to mess with my head. Or my wolf, for that matter.

I'm right here. And don't even think for a moment that I'll keep it easy for you. I'm going to make sure you have to use all your willpower to keep me from my brother and my mate. I. Will. See. Them. If it's the last thing I do. My wolf growled at me.

Look, it's not like we have a choice. I tried reasoning with her.

Ugh. You really think you can keep me from my family? We'll see, hon, we'll see. My wolf threatened me.

I just sighed, gave up and pushed her to the back of my mind.

"My wolf is not going to make it any easier. And don't even think about using wolfsbane like last time. It kept me inactive for weeks!" I told Kaden. He just nodded sadly.

"Fine, then. Let's just get this over with." He sighed.

I nodded.

Once we reached home, I geared up, thinking about Ram and Adam and how they would react if we slipped up and either of them recognized us.

No, Ava. Stop it. You're a freaking assassin.  I told myself.

No emotion. No weakness. No fear.  I repeated the slogan I was taught in my head.

My wolf is extremely quiet. I know for a fact that she is planning something. That something probably has to do with how she takes control. A forced shift is not pretty. I do not want to go through one.

Pretty soon, we reached the area the rogues were spotted. It's times like these I wonder why the vampires here also help us out. The rogues will not harm them any more than regular werewolves, so why do them a favor?

It's kinda weird, but I suppose it might have something to do with the fact that they are with the agency. Other vampires probably might not give a damn about the difference between werewolves and vampires.

We reach a clearing. A familiar one. It's the one where I was kidnapped by Asher that day two years ago.

It brings back many memories, but I fight them off. I then realize that something is off. I smelled my mate, and alerted Kaden. "Kaden. Your time to shine. Adam's here." I inform him.

Adam's POV

I had been alerted about rogues near our territory, and some even spotted in our territory a while ago. As Alpha, I had to make sure that they all were off our territory if they were a threat, and if not, that they meant no danger.

I was on my way there when I smelled her. The one scent I was far too familiar with. It hasn't changed. I checked if I had the letter. Maybe that was where it was from? But as soon as I reached down to my pockets, I felt as if I had lost control over my senses.

I couldn't hear or see or smell anything. Guys I need help. I'm close to the clearing. I think I smelled... her. I mind linked my pack.

About a minute later, I was given back my senses and there stood everyone.  Matt, Emma, Emily, John, David and Sophie. They all looked alert. Paying attention to everything around them.

I was confused. "What the hell?" I questioned. "Yeah. I feel the same way." Matt replied.

"What the fuck?!" John said. "I smell... No. It can't be..." He trailed off. "Yeah. I smelled it too, but now she's gone! What the hell?!" I finished for him.

"We are talking about Ava, aren't we?" Matt asked, sadness coating his voice.

I nodded at the rhetorical question he asked, and everyone's faces went down from anger to sadness.

"Come on you guys! She was here, we can all smell her. We need to go search! She may have told us not to look for her, but she's here, on our territory. She's not leaving unless we get some answers." I said, trying to give everyone some determination in finding their Luna.

They all seem a bit more confident now. I smile to myself. Now, that's a job well done as Alpha.

Yeah, yeah okay. Now can we PLEASE get on with finding our mate?! Whined my wolf.

Yep. Let's go!

I get out and see a big, beautiful, pitch black wolf. With absolutely no other color. This is... rare! Although, I can tell she's our mate. I'm going to have to ask her that later. For now, we need to go get our mate.

How did I not smell her, though?

It seems like she's... fighting herself... No, she's fighting her wolf! Yeah! What could possibly be the problem?!

Eventually, the wolf wins. She comes up to me, putting her muzzle in my side, trying to show affection. I give her a warm smile in return. "Hey there. I really wanted to meet you. I really want you to come home. Your brother is here, too! Please. Will you come for him, if not me?" I tell her, trying to get her to stay and not leave me again.

She just gives me a sad smile and gives back control to Ava. "Ava, please. Come home." Pleaded John. "Please. I miss you. So bad it hurts!" Her expression morphs into horror and she runs off in another direction.

I try following her trail, but instead, I smell another smell mixing with her scent. The stink of a bloodsucker. It follows for a while before they both end abruptly. What the hell is a vampire doing with Ava?!

I run back to the others and inform them of my find. They all seem pretty shocked. I am, too! I will find out what happened if it's the last thing I do. My mate can't come on my territory, bring a bloodsucker, alert me about it, and leave without a trace! I will find her. I'll chase her to the ends of the Earth if I have to!

(A/N Sorry for the cheesiness or cringe, but this is Adam's character and POV, where he met his mate after two whole years. Well, the first time he 'met' his mate, so his feeling are rather strong right now.)
