Adam's POV
We found another letter from Ava at our door today. I really hope it's not another one saying the same thing, or at least not rejecting me.
I call everyone to my office, and we pass the note along, reading it.
Hey guys. Me again.
Sorry I can't meet you all in person. I haven't met you yet, but I know when something happens :P I'm so sorry, guys. I know I messed up. Real bad. But I'm not really in a position to do anything. I'm currently handling a rogue group around your pack. I'm sure you are, too, and I would appreciate the help, but please, don't. Please, don't try to help, or look for me.
I've written this letter for two reasons, and I will get to them. I do not wish to spend more time writing about things that are not as crucial right now.
1 - I need you all to stop looking for me. Call off the search with the other Alphas. I'm sorry for stepping onto your territory without permission, but as I'm sure you can tell, I mean no harm.
2 - I got a call from Vikram. This time, he says he'll change, but I'm done with his bullshit. He never will, and I expect you to trust me on that. I may have let it slide multiple times before, but not anymore. This time, I won't stop till he's dead. He doesn't get to play with our feelings and lives.
I'm only saying this one more time - DON'T try to stop me, and DON'T try to look for me. Please. This is for you guys. If I get though this, I'll be able to come and tell you more! Maybe even talk in person! But please, stay away until then. Don't look for me even if you smell me. Stay away.
Stay away.
-Ava.
Why does she do this? It's like some sort of serial killer's M.O! Leave notes with her scent, the notes giving a piece of information, along with telling us not to look for her?! It's happened THREE times over the past ONE year! And I don't like it at all.
Moreover, I don't like the fact that she knows everything that happens here, while we don't have a lick of information about her. It's driving me crazy!
I need my mate.
My wolf whimpered.
I know, buddy. I try to calm my wolf.
Why does mate not want us? He whines
Don't worry, bud. I'm sure she has a good reason. I'm sure we're good enough for her, right? The Moon Goddess couldn't make a mistake... Could she? I tried consoling him, ending up doubting myself in the end.
"We need to adhere to what she says. I mean - it's just like last time, isn't it? We should do it." John says.
I growl at him. "There is no way this is happening again. No way in hell am I going to let this happen."
"Look, she has a reason for this. She mentioned that she'll come back if she finishes this one thing she needs to do. I think we should give her that space if it means her coming to meet us, face to face, and earning an explanation. " John replies.
"Fine." I grumbled. Not happy with this. As the Alpha, I'm supposed to make the decisions, but when it comes to my mate, John knows better. Or should I say - Ramesh knows better. He has known her for far longer than I have, and even though she's changed - according to him - a lot, she still has the same personality in there somewhere.
His words, not mine.
I sigh and decide to take a break from work. Nothing like a run in the forest, eh?
Ava's POV
I feel really bad for leaving the note, but it had to be done. I can't have them in harms way, though. I can't let them take part in this because then I'll be more worried and focused on keeping them safe.
It's around midnight. We have been in the trees, waiting for the next set of rogues to come and take the place of the current 'patrol'. That's right. These rogues are up to something. I'm marking the patrol routes and patterns, but they seem... random. I still don't see anything yet.
A loud howl breaks me out of my thoughts. I look at Kaden and it seems he heard it too. I motion for him to stay here, while I go to the source of the sound.
I quietly jump from tree to tree. Sounds impossible, but hey, they don't train us for nothing.
I reach the source of the sound to see an average - sized grey wolf with brown spots and a black spot around the eye. It's almost as if it's staring at me. I keep my cover. Unmoving, silent, almost statue-like.
I'm observing him, trying to sniff the air around, looking for something to indicate to me who he is. I smell... No, that can't be. No way. Vikram?
I should have known.
He's gone back to his old ways. This time, he's somehow gotten a whole pack behind him. Well, he'd better be ready 'coz this woman's a one-wolf army.
I'm at another pack's territory, a powerful pack's one, at that, but I don't mean harm to the pack. Just to this rogue. It's good as dead now.
Instead of doing away with it myself, I decide to strike tomorrow. I'll just alert Kaden and we can get it over with. I have a clear shot right now, but something tells me he's expecting it. I'll just get him when he least expects it.
I jump back to Kaden and inform him about the situation. By the looks of it, he has also found something.
"You will not believe what I found." Kaden tells me. I motion for him to continue.
"You know those patrols which we said were random? Well, it turns out they are random. The shifts come at random times, to confuse the ones studying it. They also don't seem to have any pattern. I overheard them discussing the next patrols, and they just want to cause a distraction. The real thing will happen tomorrow. They'll send a whole army there!" Kaden informs me.
"Okay. It looks like we have our thing to do." I smirk. He just gives me a grin back, knowing what we are going to do - we're going undercover!
That's all fun and games... until you actually get to the job. We're going to be working in the pack house to make sure nothing gets to them. Of course, I'll have to change my appearance, but Kaden can waltz in like he owns the place - well, not really. He'll have to work at the place, so he has to make it seem like he fits in. We'll be working as warriors.
These are normally the two groups of people who the Alpha, Beta and Delta sometimes overlook. The Gamma takes care of peacekeeping between the pack and others, whereas the Delta keeps the 'troops' ready. The Delta almost never leaves the pack, and the Gamma is almost always outside, attending meetings on behalf of the pack.
Anyways. I should keep my distance from them. We may have a backstory, but they may see through it. Kaden might not be allowed to come if they suspect that he's a vampire, but I made sure to take care of that.
Some warriors choose to battle in their human form. He will be joining them. They do train in their wolf form, but it's not as often as the rest of the pack. I, on the other hand, will be training with the regular warriors, because they are greater in number. Meaning more opportunity to blend in.
We slip into the pack with ease. It's almost as if no one knows that there is a rogue and a vampire in their midst. It's almost laughable. This should be fun.
