Ava's POV
Most of the pack members were already there. We greeted them and Adam introduced me to the pack.
"Listen up, everyone!" There was silence. The conversations that had been going on were cut short.
"This is Ava, your Luna. I expect everyone here to treat her with respect." He announced.
I waved to the pack members. They looked over to me and bowed their heads in acknowledgement.
I smiled sheepishly. Why was I getting shy with just a pack? I'd seen so much more!
It's because you want the pack to accept you. Kritika said, telling me what I hadn't been brave enough to admit to myself.
"We'll get started with laps around the border. I want 10 laps from each of you." Adam ordered. I joined the pack, running with them.
Damn, these guys were slow. I knew their training routine like the back of my hand, and if it were up to me, I'd change it up a little bit. 10 laps around the border isn't enough. Sure, the border is big, but we're werewolves! This much would just tire a human marathon runner. We need to be able to do better if we wanted to be safe from the rogues who were on the run 24/7. I decided to talk with Adam about it once I finished.
I ran at top speed, running 12 laps instead of 10. The Luna is supposed to do better than the pack. The only person that should be better than the Luna, they say, is the Alpha, but I highly doubt that will happen.
And you accuse me of being cocky. Kritika said.
I simply rolled my eyes back at her.
I made my way back to Adam to give my opinion.
"You guys might wanna change your routine up a little. Just running 10 laps isn't enough. This much would just tire a human. We're supposed to be stronger if we need to protect ourselves." He nodded. "We should increase it. The goal is 20 laps, but we'll increase it a little at a time."
He nodded. I stood beside him, waiting for the pack to return. "Why aren't you training with them?" I asked, not giving him a moment to respond. "Don't tell me that you do train. You may spar with them, but you never run along with them during these sessions." I quickly add in.
"Well..." He had no words. I smirked. "You're supposed to do better than the pack. Better than the Luna. I think that you should be running, too." I said. He just gave me a challenging look and a nod before running in the direction the pack started.
I smirked. Let's see if he returns before the pack. The pack were on their 5th round. Let's see if he can keep up.
To my surprise, no one returned when I expected. I got up from my seat and made my way to the borders. Rogues. I smelled them before anyone else could. I sprinted in the direction, wanting to get to them first, Kritika's instinct to protect her pack stronger than ever.
When I spotted them, I crouched down, keeping away from their line of sight. I took out a knife I had kept strapped on my ankle.
Before you ask, yes, I keep it on even while I'm asleep, along with another under the pillow. I prefer knives over guns because you can use a knife as many times as you want, and you will never have to reload it. It may lose it's edge over time, but that takes much longer. You can always sharpen it whenever you want. It makes for a good pass of time.
Anyways, I kept down, first taking a moment to assess them. There were three rogues. They weren't the good kind. Although they would have slaughtered our pack, they seemed to be here for another reason. I deemed this much information to be enough and jumped out of my hiding spot, taking them by surprise.
The other pack members could be heard behind me. I ignored them.
"Shift!" I ordered. They growled. I growled back as a warning. "I'm only going to say this one last time. Shift." I said, my voice calm, but my intentions and facial expression, anything but.
They whimpered in submission and shifted, putting on their clothes.
"Now. What is your purpose here." I asked. "We're here just for fun." They shrugged.
"Are you a threat?" I questioned. "Well, most people would classify us as one." The girl in the middle said, taking out a knife from her pocket. The others followed suit. One of them pulled out a gun, which I'm presuming is laced with silver bullets and the other pulled out what looked like a spiked baseball bat. I mean - talk about psychopathic.
I just raised my eyebrows as an evil smile came up their face. I sighed. "Fine. You asked for it."
I pulled out my knife and threw it into the head of the guy with the baseball bat and while they were looking at their dying friend with surprise, I dashed over to them and knocked one of the girls out cold. The last one looked at me.
By now, the guy must've been dead. I smirked. She looked at me with rage and lunged at me, but I easily dodged it.
She held the knife to my chin and smirked. I just stared at her with my hands raised. She took steps forward and I took a few backward. By now, the pack had surrounded us and Adam was watching intently. When my back hit a tree, apparently, he couldn't take it anymore.
He was about to jump in, but I just held up my arm, signaling him to stay, and he did. Everyone looked at me with disbelief written all over their faces.
"I win." The girl smirked. I just rolled my eyes. In one swift movement, I twisted her wrist, making her drop the knife. I gripped it before it fell and pointed it at her. She put her hands up in surrender.
"Take her to the cells." Ordered Adam. The pack members happily obliged. She gave me one last look before saying, "He sent me." This made me freeze for a moment. The pack member stopped to let the conversation finish. She was talking about McAllister.
Of course he did. "Sure." I countered, rolling my eyes to make it look like I didn't care.
"He wants you back. He needs another." She meant he needed another agent. "You know how it is." She said. I looked at her for a moment before deciding that she was, indeed, telling the truth. Boss is in for a big surprise when I come.
"Let her go." I said. The pack members who were taking her reluctantly let go of her. "You could have spared the lives of your partners. But I suppose that's your fault. You could have led with the reason you came."
"Anyways, tell him that I'm staying with my pack." I told her. She glared at me before obeying.
"Okay, I think we can cancel out the rest of today's training. We have taken enough of your weekend as it is. You are free to go about your day as usual." Adam announced.
The pack dispersed, leaving just Me, Adam and Kaden.
"I heard everything." Kaden said. "I'm sure you did." I replied. "Why though?" I wondered out loud.
Kaden shrugged. "I don't know, but I think we should have a chat with him and find out. As for these bodies, I'll just go get the blue oleander concentrate."
"What's that?" Adam asked. "It's a mix we use to get clear up crime scenes." I answered. He nodded.
"You fought really well, by the way." He commented. I hummed in response.
We walked back to the pack house, leaving Kaden to deal with the bodies.
We reached the pack house and decided to spend the rest of the day doing... close to nothing. We talked all day, played around and I did absolutely nothing else.
The girls all said that we should have a sleepover since the boys wanted to have a 'gaming night' as they called it.
I'm up for it, but I've never done something like this in my whole life.
I'm nervous. It's my first time with friends.
