Adam's POV

I feel really bad for her. I give everyone a glare while holding her in my arms. Everyone's jaws are still dropped. They're staring at me and Ava with those looks. I don't like how everyone thinks differently of Ava.

They all knew this ever since she came back and explained this, and I understand that it feels different when you hear it from her, but that does not mean that she's any different. She's still my mate and their Luna. They will treat her with respect.

They better. My wolf growls in my head.

Ava pulls away, looking back at everyone's faces with an expressionless one of her own, but thanks to the mate bond, I can feel sadness and shame. I feel so bad for her. She stares at everyone with a look that would bury an Alpha a thousand feet under. When it gets to me, however, her eyes soften, but not too much. She's back to being stone cold.

Kaden walks down and sees the scene before him. "Uhh..." He begins, making everyone's heads snap to him. Ava stares at him intensely, making him whimper, then his eyes glaze over and so do Ava's. They both stare at each other intently before Kaden nods and goes out of the house, following Ava.

Call me crazy, but it looked like they just mind-linked. But how is that possible? Kaden's a vampire, and even if he was a werewolf, she's not in a pack. Unless you're in a pack, you can't mind link, as far as I know, at least.

I look at everyone and I know they are thinking the same thing. What happened?

Ava's POV

I went outside, making my way to the pack library. I don't know how, but I somehow mind-linked Kaden. He was scared at first, but then got what happened. I put up the block against everyone else in the pack, allowing only Kaden in. I was getting a mild headache from Adam pounding at the wall to let me in, but I wouldn't budge.

Ava, What the hell was that? Kaden asked.

I don't know, but I'm sure we can find some answers in the pack library. I replied.

I can't believe I didn't think of finding out more about the 'black wolf' in my free time. I had enough on my hands. I should have been smarter to use my time.

Hey, it's okay. Calm down. Wait - you did something in your free time? What free time? You're always on the job! I heard Kaden. Oh shoot did he hear that?

Yes, I heard it! Now answer me. What free time? He demanded again.

I rolled my eyes at him. I also have some free time, you know. I asked boss to give me more work because I didn't want any free time because I thought I had no other side project left. Before that, I when I was given time, I'd use it to track down Vikram or find my brother. Once those problems were taken care of, I didn't think I had anything to do, so I asked boss to give me more work. I explained.

And THAT'S why I ended up with more work with you! Why couldn't he assign a different partner? He whined.

I just rolled my eyes and stopped as we were in front of the library. I was in no mood to pay mind to anyone else. I hid my scent and entered the labyrinth of books.

After what seemed like forever, I found the section for old wolf myths. The librarian was an old lady who didn't have the best memory when it came to things in general, so we took it upon ourselves to find what we were looking for.

Kaden I called out to him.

Yeah? Came his reply.

I found the aisle where I think we can find more about the black wolf. I told him.

In no less than a second, he was by my side. "Please tell me it's here." He begged no one in particular.

I rolled my eyes. "Let's get searching." I huffed out.

I started looking through the B's. Black wolf... I thought as I skimmed through the books.

Kaden exclaimed "Finally! Found something!" I rushed over to him to see him holding a book. "The Black Wolves" He read out.

I rolled my eyes. Of course it would have an extra word.

I opened the book to read the contents page.

1. How to differentiate between a black wolf and regular wolf.
2. Why are black wolves different?
3. In what ways are black wolves different?
     a. Shifting
     b. Finding their mate
     c. Heat
     d. Powers

I stopped reading there and flipped through the pages, taking in the information. In the end, I closed the book with a loud thud, not able to read more.

I learnt that black wolves are only females of a strong line. They are always mated to Alphas, and if they do not mate with their Alpha mate, and choose someone else, the gene does not pass along to their daughter. Once she is born, the mother will lose her power as a black wolf and turn into a normal one. The power will be passed onto another person who is deemed worthy.

Black wolves were apparently sent to Earth by Selene, the moon goddess herself, because she could not descend to Earth to solve some problems. Instead, she could solve them through the black wolves, whose coats represented their rule of the night alongside Selene.

I also found out that black wolves shift late compared to regular ones because the power needed to reach the full potential is only gained after some time.

Black wolves do not need to come of age to find their mate. When they do, they become more powerful. They become much more strong and fast after they meet their mate. Their heat is not the same as it is for regular werewolves. There are no signs of it given beforehand. It begins very abruptly, and is worse than that of normal werewolves.

They have more sensitive senses, and have more strength, but everything increases even more meeting their mate. Their mate will also have some enhanced senses, but not as much as the black wolves themselves.

Suddenly, a piercing pain shot through my abdomen. I started feeling hot all over and I felt a dying need in my core. We're in heat! Exclaimed Kritika. We need our mate! I clutched my stomach, doubling over, trying my best to keep a straight face. Kaden's eyes widened as he understood what was happening.

He picked me up, carrying me bridal style. In less than a minute, we were standing in front of the pack house. "Adam!" He called. I clutched my stomach once again as I felt another wave of heat and pain wash over me. I couldn't take it anymore. I pushed myself off his arms and stumbled upstairs. Kaden didn't dare make a move, knowing that I might end up killing him.

You might be wondering why I didn't mind-link Adam. Well, my wolf wouldn't stay still long enough for me to contact him. Although I'm sure his wolf knows about it, I'm not sure if Adam does. I hope he helps me, because if he doesn't, then I'm done for.

A few steps away from the door, I see him rushing out to me, carrying me bridal style to our room. Being in his presence makes the heat die down a little bit, but it doesn't help the need I feel in between my legs.

I look into his eyes to find him staring at my body with lust and love. Almost as if nothing happened before we rushed out of the library.

"I won't do this without your permission." He said. We both knew what he was talking about. I let out deep breaths. He kept me in his embrace. This helped lessen the pain. It wasn't bearable, but it wasn't as bad as earlier. I was still clutching my stomach, but mustered up the strength to talk.

"I'm ready, and I'm so sorry, Adam. Please, don't look at me like I'm a monster. I don't have a choice, I-" But he cut me off with a long, passionate kiss.

It helps for a little bit, but soon enough, another, more powerful wave washes over me. I break away from the kiss to crave it more. "Shit" Adam curses.

He removes his clothes, leaving him in his boxers. I understand what he's trying to do. I strip down to my underwear as well and kiss him fiercely.
