You waved your mother goodbye as she watched you enter the Hogwarts express. There, you quickly looked around the cabins to find one you could be by yourself in. No need for any small talk and you'd be able to take some rest before the stressful days would start. Thankfully you managed to find one and settled yourself, secured your package and closed the door.
It didn't take long for you to fall asleep with the Autumn landscapes turning frosty as your sight, the steady shaking of the train almost rocking you to sleep hugged tight in your warm blanket.
It was time to go home.

You woke up to someone touching your shoulder, calling out your last name. Opening your eyes you found it was Draco, your classmate.
"Leave me be, Malfoy, I knew we were here. I just rested my eyes" you said and grabbed all your stuff.
"Yeah sure, you better hurry if you want to take a carriage with me, Crabbe, Goyle and Pansy" he scoffed and closed the cabin door on his way out.

It's not like you couldn't tolerate each other, it's just that your parents absolutely despised each other and it made things quite awkward at times. Though all it created was this weird feeling where you couldn't decide wether you liked him or hated him.
And of course it was fun to start fights with him and see how riled up he gets.

Alongside everyone else you watched the first graders get sorted into their houses and who would join you in Slytherin. They looked promising for sure, but the focus was quickly taken by Blaise nudging your side.
"Isn't that Umbridge on the edge there?" he asked and raised an eyebrow. "Oh wow, a lady from the ministry teaching here.. Snape doesn't look happy so she's probably teaching Defense against the Dark Arts" you let out a little cackle. "God she's in all pink, we won't learn bullshit."
"My thoughts. At least Potions always goes well for us."
"Hell it does" you reply and you check up your hands under the table quickly, putting on some food and digging in.
"Oh, why didn't you come to the gathering my family hosted in the holidays?" you asked before taking a bite of chicken and perfectly grilled vegetables. "You know I don't think fondly of Death Eaters... I barely visit you because they're friends with some of them" Blaise answers and rolls his eyes, stuffing his face with potatoes and gravy. You scoff. "Blaise, you could've done at least one single gathering, come on now. I know it's worse now after what Potter said after Cedric's Death, but- At least for me, we've been friends forever and you know I won't ever become a Death Eater."
"Next time" he said, then gestured to the end of the great hall.

"Good evening everyone!" greeted Dumbledore at his podium, "Now, we have to changes in staffing this year. We are pleased to welcome back Professor Grubbly-Plank, who'll be taking care of Magical Creatures while Professor Hagrid is on temporary leave. We also wish to welcome our new Defense Against The Dark Arts teacher, Professor Dolores Umbridge. And I'm sure you'll all join me in wishing the professor good luck." He was about to go on with his speech, when he was interrupted by someone clearing their throat obnoxiously. You raised your eyebrows, not expecting anyone to interrupt Dumbledore like that. Suddenly, Umbridge got up, thanking Dumbledore for his welcoming words and standing in front of his podium. Insisting we'd all be "very good friends" the lady in pink starts a speech of her own.

"The Ministry of Magic has always considered the education of young witches and wizards to be of vital importance. Although each headmaster has brought something new to this historic school, progress for the sake of progress must be discouraged. Let us preserve, what must be preserved, perfect, what can be perfected and prune practices that ought to be prohibited."

With a giggle she goes to sit back and Dumbledore is first to clap. You clap maybe once or twice out of politeness, but no real impressiveness has hit you. More so, you were wondering why the Ministry would be interfering with Hogwarts when there's other stuff to worry about.
