Severus slowly took of the book from your face, looking at the page you had opened. The sketch of the Zouwu was stained with a few teardrops, the rest dried on your face. He sighs and puts it away, gently removing the strands of hair that stuck to your face from your skin. Your breath slow and steady, the look on your face peaceful for once. It's nice to see for him, as most of the time you were either worried or he could tell you cried alone in your chambers. Now that he grew to not only like you, but see you as someone under his care-
he has to talk with you about a lot.

"How did I get here?" you mumble to yourself, feeling the familiar texture of your bedsheets. The book is gone, too. Instead of thinking further you just get up and walk to the kitchen, finding a cinnamon toast making itself on the stove. The house isn't quiet enough for you to be alone with Pettigrew, either. Your thoughts were proven right by Severus walking around the corner, lighting up a little when he sees you.
"Tomorrow I'm leaving to go back to Hogwarts. I hope you will stay home this day" he says, letting the cinnamon toast fly along to a plate and in front of you. "Hogwarts?" you ask confused. "What are you doing there?"
"I'm the new Headmaster."
"Oh, yes. You killed Dumbledore. Now I remember."
"Why were you reading about Zouwus last night?" Severus asks, opening up his newspaper.
"Did you take it? Well, I used to take care of one. Her name was Mao, but I set her free when the Death Eaters invaded my.. home" you gulp and take a small bite of the toast.
"Don't they have very good hearing? If you'd like, we can try to find her."
"We can?"
"Surely. Let's just spent this last day together."

So you found yourself in front of your destroyed house again, letting go of Severus after apparating there. A big knot made it's way in your throat as you see the crumbled walls you once called home. Without a word the both of you make your way to the big fields behind it, where you take a deep breath in-
and whistle.
Nothing. Well, what did you expect? It's not like she'd stay here forever. Especially when neither your parents or you were there. You sigh and turn around to Severus shaking your head. "I think we should go again, Mao isn't gonna come back" you say and shrug your shoulders. Severus put's a hand on your shoulder and forces you to turn around, where the trees parted far away in the forest. There she was, running right towards you. Mao.
The biggest smile, showing off her fangs, painted her face and you ran to her too, hugging her immediately as you clash and you bury your face in her soft fur. She purrs so loud the ground almost shakes as you laugh and let out tears of joy. "I missed you so much, Mao, you can't even imagine" you sob and only let her go to make Severus pet her too. He was hesitant at first, but Mao held back as if she was trying not to scare him.
You lay down on her fur and sigh, just taking in the moment.
"What happened at Malfoy Manor?" Severus asks, and you realize you never told him.
"Oh yes! I totally forgot, my apologies. Well, we did identify Potter. Though, we didn't want to tell at first, it all turned into a fight quickly when one of them had the sword of Gryffindor, I think it was Weasley. Anyways, Bellatrix was very angry that someone stole the sword from her vault in Gringotts and started hurting Granger, then an elf appeared and dropped the chandelier, Potter stole Draco's wand and they all disappeared. I left after that too, didn't want Bellatrix to turn her anger on me or something."
"The sword? They had the real sword?"
"Yes, and apparently they somehow stole it from Gringotts."
"No, they didn't. The one in Gringotts is fake."
"Fake? How do you know?"
"Because I exchanged it to the fake."
Your jaw drops with those words and you laugh.
"Wow, you really planned ahead. Hm... I don't know if someone ever did this, but thank you for helping Draco when he couldn't kill Dumbledore."
"Dumbledore was my friend, someone I looked up to, as well. I was closer to him than anyone, just like I am with the Dark Lord. But it pays it's price to be on both sides at the same time. I think you might know a little what I mean. Dumbledore wanted me to do it. I fulfilled my promise for Draco and to Dumbledore...
Will you return to Hogwarts?"
"Hogwarts?" you ask and turn the fingers in your hands. "I don't know... I've already missed so much, is it still worth it?"
"Would you like to stay alone with Pettigrew? Just saying it."
"I think I have to stay here. Not only for my sake, but also Draco's. The Dark Lord keeps his eyes on us and he's planning again. Just-
Just tell me if Blaise is doing okay? Please."
"Of course, I will. You still have the wrist chain, don't you?"
"No, it broke after what happened at Malfoy Manor" you admit, turning around the charm on your wrist to reveal it cracked and crooked.
Severus didn't seem mad, instead he opened up his coat a little and took a necklace of his own neck, holding it up to enchant it. When he puts it on you, it's still comfortably warm from him wearing it.
"Keep it. It was the part to match for me, but it's more important that you know how to find me whenever you need to."
"Severus?" you ask, holding the charm tight.
"Yes?"
"Promise me that you'll keep yourself safe. I don't think I can handle losing my family again" you explain and watch Severus eye you with the same pain you hold. The pain of losing who you love and fearing to lose it again.
"I promise you" he says, and you hold your arms around him as tight as possible, inhaling his scent.

Hopefully, not for the last time.
