"WHY ARE WE MOVING?!" San complained loudly "EMI COME ON!"
"No arguments San." Emily snapped "We have to move. We've lived here long enough. I've already found a good place so today we're going and checking it out so we can decide rooms and stuff. By next week, we'll move in."
"I don't see why we can't just keep living here." San continued "I know we need to stay in different places every few years but come on. We're safe here."
"That's how mistakes happen. You know what position we are in and why we need to stay on the move." Emily glared "Don't piss around San. You don't see anyone else complaining do you?"
Nobody else was. Aki for one, didn't quite care. They were going to move into the suburbs this time, the idyllic Ellesmere suburbs where mostly families lived. He was rather excited to go. San wasn't though. Why does he want to waste a perfectly good Friday evening arguing with Emily when he knows she won't listen? He crossed his arms "What's in it for me?"
Emily rolled her eyes "You get your own room in this one."
"Done." San grinned in satisfaction "Sorry Aki no offense."
"None taken." Aki mumbled.
Kenma sighed "So it's settled. Today we go look at the place. It'll be furnished there and we're gonna take only the most necessary stuff. Everything else will be bought new later."
They all nodded. Emily took a sip of water "Okay before we leave, let's go over our clean identities. I'm Emily Parker, 28, architect."
"I'm Kenma Reyes, 29, computer engineer."
"I'm Gale Harp, 24, lawyer."
"San Martinez, 24, pro-gamer."
"I'm Akabane Inari, 21, university student." Aki said quietly, knowing full well he was the only one who would be openly lying. He was no student. The others did have jobs.
"Good." Emily smiled "It'll be great. Don't worry. At least we'll be together."
Together. Yeah. At least I'll have them. Aki smiled too, smiled at his found family. The only reason he was still alive. Before long, they were all bundled into Emily's car with her at the wheel and Kenma in passenger's side. Aki was squished between San and Gale. San was rather lean but had wide shoulders and Gale was simply put, muscled. He hoped he could get out sooner, mentally resolving to call dibs before anyone else so he could grab front seat.
They got out about twenty minutes later. Aki looked around partly in awe. It was THE ideal neighbourhood. The type a classic all-American family would live in in an 80's TV show. Perfectly trimmed hedges, neat white fences, bright red roofs, vibrant greenery all over, front lawns decorated with all sorts of lawn ornaments or children's toys. Emily laughed "Isn't it perfect?"
"Sure is." Kenma agreed with a laugh "I feel like we should adopt a kid or a dog or something."
"LET'S GET A DOG!" Yelled Gale, San, and Aki in unison.
"Seeing this place, honestly? I feel like we could." Emily chuckled "This one is ours. Number six."
"Any clue who lives around?" San asked.
"Seven is lived in, clearly." Emily pointed to a silver car in their new neighbour's open parking, house opposite theirs.
"Looks like a kid lives there." Gale pointed out a nerf gun and a blue ball flung around.
"Seems like it." Emily said "Okay come in. Let's call rooms."
The place was wonderful. Clean white walls and loads of natural light with huge windows made it look bigger and airy. Dark oak floors, open kitchen with polished granite countertops. Aki darted to a glass door leading to a backyard and grinned "Jacuzzi!"
