Ayu was ecstatic. It was finally summer! He was having the time of his life. Aki was out of university and was also free during the summer aside from working here and there. He mostly worked at home. So while his dad went to work, Ayu spent his days messing around with Aki. They went to all sorts of places, visited friends, even went to the doctor with Emi and saw his cousin in her belly. On days they couldn't go out, Aki brought the fun home. He had started a tradition of board game plays. He taught Ayu how to play chess which he rather enjoyed. Ayu felt like Shikamaru every time he beat Aki. They'd put up a chart on the fridge marking wins for themselves.

Aki taught him how to fight too. Ayu learned basic MMA moves and cartwheels and how to wrap his legs around his neck. They watched movies and TV shows, Aki even got them tickets to an online concert! On the weekends when Dad was home, all three of them would have fun. Needless to say Ayu was having a very fun summer. Except the days Aki went to work and he'd have to do his holiday homework. But it was mostly awesome. He also had his brain camp starting in a week so he was excited to go back and meet all his friends and maybe even participate in the chess contest.

"DAD LET'S GO!" Ayu yelled, holding his bag ready.

"GOD WAIT!" Dad yelled as he ran downstairs "We have time Ayu relax! The world won't end just because you're not early to your sleepover!"

"Dad but I wanna go!" Ayu whined.

Ayu had a sleepover with his friends from school and he was very excited. His dad was dressed in a baggy hoodie and jeans. Ayu glared "Dad are you serious?"

"What?" Dad looked down at his clothes "Ayu it's just a movie date I don't have to dress up. I've been with Aki for two years I doubt he'll care."

"Dad I care! Come with me!" Ayu stomped up with his dad following with a sigh "San said when you're on a date, the first way you show your date you care is by dressing well."

"I should stop let you hanging out with that Casanova."

"NO!"

"Kidding champ." Dad chuckled.

Ayu studied his dad's familiar wardrobe. What am I going to do with him? Ayu thought in exasperation has he picked out a blue shirt with faded white stars on it and a white tank top. Dad smiled "Thank you baby."

"You're welcome dad." Ayu smiled back and ran off "GET READY QUICKLY!"

He ran downstairs and saw Aki glaring at his phone. He was dressed far better than his dad in a simple creamy tan shirt and black trousers. Ayu smiled "Hi Aki!"

"Hey Ayu." Aki grinned and stuffed his phone away "Kiddo can you tell Nakul I'll see him at the movies I need to go for something urgent."

"Okie!" Ayu nodded.

Aki ruffled his hair "Thanks pup. Have fun at your sleepover okay? Take care."

With that he left. Ayu noticed him fiddling with his watchstrap. It was just something he'd noticed in all his time with Aki. Aki tended to do that a lot and keep pulling his watch up. Maybe because his watch keeps slipping because he has tiny hands. Dad turned up "Okay champ let's go. AKI-"

"He went out for work. He said he'll join you later." Ayu reported.

"Ah okay. Must be that project he was talking about." Dad said and gestured for Ayu to follow him "Either way, get in the car champ. Time to go."

"YAY!" Ayu grabbed his bag and sprinted out.

Dad played his boring music again and started rambling on about some David Bowie person and the Thin White Duke or whatever. Aki might have paid attention and understood but Ayu didn't know or care. Despite how cool his dad usually was, he could get really boring at times. He didn't understand how Aki could spend hours just listening to Dad with a smile on his face. Must be faking it so dad doesn't feel bad. He was already thinking about his tactics to defeat villains when he slipped into his role as Black Ranger. Burn them to death. That's best. I wonder if Jace owns a flamethrower. Then maybe I could really do that! Ayu daydreamt about setting fire to turtle monsters while his dad rambled on "So what's really interesting is the interlude in Golden Years-"
