Dropping face down into my bed I instantly get comfortable as I am thankful for the fact that we don't live in the dorms and instead decided on living in one of the houses nearby and splitting the rent halfway.
Just as I feel myself drift away my phone rings. I open my eyes as I watch the call go through with an annoyed stare. Seconds away from letting it just keep ringing, I pick up the phone as I mutter to myself.
"Why am I popular all of the sudden?"
Answering the call I press the phone to my ear, "Hmm?"
"You didn't answer me."
Furrowing my brow, I look at the caller and noticed I was being called through the app, "Oh yeah, sorry I never bothered looking at my messages after I walked to class."
"I almost thought I was being ghosted~"
In a panic, "No I wouldn't-"
"Relax I know you are in college so I expected you to be busy," then after a moment's silence, "I ended up calling you seeing as I had some free time to see if I can get an answer before I have to make different plans."
"Wait... what was the question?" I raise myself as I sit at the edge of the bed.
"The other night you talked about a place where you and a friend ate out and it was surprisingly decent."
"I'm not following."
She snorts over the call, "I know the place, which also means we are also in the same city."
"Right... Ohh, you want to meet up?"
Hearing a slight giggle, "Yes. Should have opted to make it a little bit more obvious," then clearing her throat, "Anyway. What time works for you and I'll meet you there?"
"Around ten-ish?"
"Sure."
"And what? Do I just stand outside or wait inside?"
"Outside would be better, would be funny if came around having to ask everyone for your name... ah right, can I have your name?"
"(Y/N), and-"
"Cool. I'll see you then."
"Cool..."
"Also," she adds before stopping, "Just don't freak out when you see me."
"That makes me feel pretty confident, I hope you don't turn out to be a dude."
"That you don't have to worry about, bye!" the calls ends.
I couldn't even ask for her name. Whatever this is probably as easy as it gets so I am not going to complain about getting a little better as a person - small steps.
*** Akali POV ***
As the call ends I yell, "Ahri I won't be coming home till late!"
She calls back from her room, "Then find somewhere else to live!" then watch her step, meeting her annoyed stare with my amused stare, "Why? What are you doing?"
"Going to meet up with the kid I messaged earlier."
"Kid? Isn't he like two years younger than you?"
"Focus. Please."
"Right right," then walking over to a cabinet searching for something, "I thought this was a total friend thing and you aren't going to stop annoying..." then turning back to look at me, "-aren't going to move out for a while."
"Remember that he is in this city and thought it would be fun to hang out," then glancing towards the window, "A lot of my friends are mostly people I work with or have some shred of fame to their name."
"And you think he isn't going to go insane?"
I lift my shoulders, "I mean then I dodged a bullet."
"And wasted your time."
"Thanks, Ahri. Your negativity really helps put things into a jarring perspective," I roll my eyes.
"I am just honest sweety," then heading to the door, "I am going to meet up with some reps and be home in a few hours - you want takeout?"
"Always," I lift my hand to wave goodbye as she disappears through the door.
I will handle that when I get there. More reason I didn't tell him over the phone what my name was so I hope he won't feel bad - I have a feeling he would be cool with it all so once again Akali is going to trust her gut and hope it doesn't burst into flames.
*** Normal POV ***
Waiting in front of the little restaurant at the edge of the park. Standing against the wall with my hands in my pockets as I curse myself. Mostly because I am probably going to end up not falling asleep for the night and feel the exact same way tomorrow.
Well - at least this happened somehow.
I look at the time to see that it is a few minutes past ten. Was the freaking out targeted at not freaking out that she is going to be late... though even after hearing her voice there is this weird paranoia where it does end up being a dude.
I have never been cat-fished before and this will not be the first. Hearing a bike pull up I watch the person hover for a moment on top of the bike before parking it. Pulling off the helmet my first instinct is looking away as I recognize the face and hair instantly.
Akali? This has to be the weirdest coincidence... but there is no fucking way this is the girl that I was talking to. This is like... leagues upon leagues above on people that would be willing to have a simple conversation with me.
That or my perspective of society is skewed. I snort to myself, I can't even look at the word 'society' the same way anymore, it is up there with 'gamers'. I hate the internet.
With a sigh, I keep my gaze to myself as I notice the footsteps stopped a few paces away from me, "(Y/N)?"
No fucking way.
