"You don't live in the dorms?" she asks as I climb off of the back, "Nice place. I am almost a little bit jealous."
Looking at it, "It is pretty nice to not live in the dorms. The rent is just a bit of a hassle but we have that mostly covered - besides I get to do what I want to do a lot more here without having to listen to a curfew or any other rules."
"Like staying up till five in the morning?"
"I didn't say I am proud of some of the things I do," I chuckle then turn to face her as she lifts her hand to wave at me.
"You live alone or? You did mention we."
I shake my head, "I live with Conrad. The dude you met the other night."
"Ahh, then that is practically my living arrangement," she then shakes her as she stops herself from saying something, lifting her hand to wave at me, "Catch you later."
"Yeah... goodbye."
Tilting her head into a sweet smile, she then drives off as I turn towards the door. Stepping through I hear two voices inside... walking carefully as to make sure I am not interrupting something only to see Conrad with Matty.
Asking with a furrowed brow, "What happened to you two?"
They both look at me, Conrad's face is practically just bruised. Matty's face on the other hand is perfectly fine but his clothes are either torn or smudged. Traces of red on Conrad's collar as he smiles widely at me.
"Welcome home. Had fun with whatever you do nowadays?"
I nod, "Yeah... what did you two do to look like you just managed to piss off the wrong people."
Matty laughs only to touch his stomach with a pained groan, "You should see the other guys - it is just a bunch of tough guys that were talking shit and we had to quickly put them in their place," he then looks at Conrad, "And they took my boy... his boy's poor face," he reaches over to touch Conrad's face.
"Fuck off-"
"It's all he ever had!" he slaps his hand away as he looks at him with a snarl.
He shakes his head as he looks at me, "Safe to say we left a little mark. If Zackyboy starts shit with you just let us know - just need to remind him with a little love tap that his sports career can end just like that."
"Until all of them roll up on both of you," I rub my brow, "Was this for me?"
Matty then states, "I didn't do it for you - I just like kicking their teeth in."
"Thanks... Matty."
Conrad then sighs, "Don't worry about it so much. Besides if you aren't going to get them to shut up then someone is going to have to do it," he touches the side of his face only to flinch, "But then again maybe kicking their asses isn't really all that worth it."
I nod, "It isn't," then shaking my head, "I can take care of myself-"
"By not doing anything?"
I nod, "It's surprisingly effective."
"And what if it gets worse because you are ignoring them?"
I then turn to walk to my room, "Then I move past it. Chances are, you going out there because someone said something about me is going to make them even more willing to pick on me - sending you out like a hound because I can't fend for myself."
"Have you considered fighting back then?"
I shake my head, "Do you forget who I am?" I then rub my brow, "Whatever. Thanks for looking out for me, I really appreciate it but... what is the point if you end up getting your shit kicked in."
He looks at me with an unimpressed stare, "You should just go and see what the other guys look like," he then chuckles weakly, "Alright man. Just don't expect me to sit around and let it happen, you need to start stepping up and not tuck your shoulders every time."
"Eventually," I then walk towards my room, "Stay out of trouble."
"Yes dad!" he calls after me.
I guess I should feel at least a tad bit grateful but I didn't ask for him to do that much for me. It... either solves nothing or they stop completely after having the ever-living fear of god kicked into them but that is just a stretch at best.
I don't want him to do that for me. It would be a lot different if I was the one picking the fights - I have been actively tucking my head between my shoulders and hoping that is enough to get by. All these small things don't bother me and it is a little bit too late in my life for it to start killing me.
Putting the pc on with my toe, I drop down face-first onto the bed. Groaning into the covers as I turn my head to watch it boot up. Can't wait to see how tomorrow is going to end up being - followed by probably another painful experience that will be mind-numbingly painful.
The positivity on my end is really making everything come off a lot worse than it is - rolling over to the side, I reach for the back of the seat. Pulling it out I plop down as I stare emptily at the screen.
Unfortunate that she had to go so soon. I don't want to do anything.
