Aurora's POV
Camila lays next to me on the grass, running her hands across it like it was the most fascinating thing in the world. Her hair was covered in flowers I've pinned in there. My hair is well bombarded with loads of sunflowers. The air was fresher than normal. As I look up the clouds began to spread out.
Birds chirped, flying across the blue with large eyes. Observing. I'd often imagine myself as those birds, watching everyone's moves. Seeing everything. It was a peculiar imagination. Though, when I was younger that's all I ever did. Any day, I'd be in my head. Reminiscing if you so call it.
"You're my best friend."
The voice of a small girl whispered beside me.
My eyes stung. I have never engaged with a child this long. It felt right to see and hear the point of view of a young girl. I wanted to understand her every thought. Her imaginations. I wanted to know how it felt to be a child. To have a mother who cared deeply. An uncle who would give himself up, just to make her safe.
My whisper was silent but heard.
"You're my best friend too."
She was innocent. She was young. I would make sure she is safe. My protection for her goes far believe. I will be the person that I wish I needed when I was her age. As I look into her eyes I see Severus. The dark orbs shone and reached to grab me.
My hands brushed the long green grass.
I've felt like I've gone mad.
I worry. Severus was somewhere I had no idea. He was out in the open for Jason to come to find him. Was this his plan? To lure him into a trap.
My concerns have gone too far. A ringing in my ear alerted me that something is happening. I feel the energy of violence. Severus was capable of anything and I finally knew that now. After finding the truth, care for him grew immensely. He wanted to save my aunt.
I saw it with my own eyes, the memories were real. It was not a trick to fool me into thinking he was a good person. Severus showed me that he tried. It was no use. She did it for a reason. She left me in a world where I had to fend for myself.
The look in his eyes every time we see each other gave me all I had to know. Regret is what he felt. Hopeless into his world. The dark lord controlled him—made him do vicious inhuman things.
Severus wanted to be better.
I would help him.
Because every part of me knew we won't leave anytime soon from my life. I was prepared to see what that path would leave us.
I loved him.
Camila sat up, eyes widening. Her eyes flashed around my neck.
"What is it?"
Her fingers pointed against the gold material with a big smile.
"Your necklace is beautiful!"
I paused watching her.
"Thank you. . Did your mother help you pick this out?" My question made Camila's brows wrinkle.
"I didn't get it for you? Santa did."
What? Camila didn't give it to me? That only meant it had to be from Severus. My heart thumped, smiling cheerfully. Why didn't he just give it himself?
