XIII • Quae Dicis • The Things You Say
I woke up and stretched my legs with a sigh, feeling my leg brush against another. With a jolt, I remembered Lupin was in my bed. With a quick glance over at him, I carefully pushed myself out of bed. He looked too adorable for comfort with his hair messy from sleep and his face relaxed. I quietly grabbed some clothes and went into the bathroom, closing the door slowly behind me.
I took a quick shower and changed into my clothes, dropping my dirty clothes into my hamper before leaving the bathroom. I saw that Lupin was still in bed and looked away quickly, not wanting to seem creepy. I checked the time and saw that it was still early. My nap from the day before was working in my favor, so I took the extra time to grade the papers from the day before.
I stilled when Lupin groaned from my bed, and I heard him moving around.
"Goodmorning," he said after a moment, his voice low and raspy from being asleep. "How did you sleep?"
"Well," I said. "Thank you for staying with me."
"Of course, Miss Y/L/N. Do you mind if I use your bathroom?"
"Go ahead," I said and glanced over at him. His light brown hair was ruffled from sleep. He smiled sleepily at me as he passed by. He was wearing a plain t-shirt and his usual black pants.
He doesn't even look that cute, I tried to convince myself, running my fingers through my hair. I stood and began to make my bed, noticing the reminiscent scent of Lupin on the covers as I leaned to tuck them. On the floor beside the bed was his sweater, which I folded and draped over my chair beside his robes.
He emerged from the bathroom looking more awake, his hair neat and his eyes more alert.
"Are you ready for today?" he asked, grabbing his sweater and pulling it over his head.
"I suppose so," I said and watched as he pulled his robes onto his shoulders.
"I'm going back to my room to shower and get dressed, but then I'll be ready to prepare with you," he said. "You do remember that I'll be out on Friday?"
"Oh, yeah," I said. "I do now."
"We'll discuss it later and see if you're still up for teaching," he said and smiled. "I'll see you in a bit."
"For sure. Thank you again."
"Anytime."
As he left, I sat down on the edge of my bed, thinking back to the night. He had confessed that he still wanted me, and then went to sleep like it was nothing while I laid awake, trying to make sense of his words. His presence didn't do much to settle me, not when I was hypersensitive to every one of his movements. Not to mention when he awoke halfway through the night, apparently too warm, and stripped off his sweater. Just the thought of it had my heart racing.
I scoffed at myself. How pathetic could I be? Practically drooling over a man who wanted nothing to do with me.
But he did. He said that himself- that he wanted to be with me more than I could imagine but that it couldn't happen, and that I just had to trust his judgment. I gathered my papers and tucked them into my bag with a sigh.
There was one thing that he was right about. If things went wrong, it could be bad for the students. That much I understood. But the rest confused me.
When I arrived at his classroom, Lupin was fresh out of the shower, his hair wet and slicked back, and the smell of his soap was overwhelming. He was wearing a different set of robes that were peppered with patches sewn on by hand.
