Ezra snarled at his homework. Why did he have to do this anyways? It wasn't like he was ever going to need to know the formula for density is mass divided by volume, or to change from grams to kilograms, you divide the numbers by 1000.
Nobody is supposed to have time when they're in a war, but apparently Ezra did. "Stupid science," he grumbled. He contemplated how satisfying it would be to crumple the paper up and what the consequences would be before deciding against it.
"This is all Mon Mothma's fault." And it was. She had instructed that anyone who was either the age of 18 or under to take lessons on things that Ezra thought nobody would ever actually use.
A growl crept into his throat when Ezra heard laughter from outside his room. By the feminine quality to the voice, he could tell that it was Sabine. Lucky her, she was older than 18, so she didn't have to go through the suffering that Ezra was.
"Ezra, we're playing capture the flag," Sabine called through the door. "Are you joining?" Ezra looked towards the door longingly. Of course he wanted to join, but he kriffing couldn't because of his homework!
He hesitated before responding, "No, thanks," to the best of his abilities without letting his voice quiver. Sabine hesitated outside the door, then walked away, and Ezra felt her force presence leave.
Quickly, he turned back to the papers spread out in front of him. Slowly, he began working his way through it, but was quickly stopped at a question.
"An object weighs 36 g in air and has a volume of 8.0 cm cubed. What would be the buoyant force acting on the stone in Newtons?" he read the question out loud with the hopes of understanding it better.
A frustrated noise escaped him as he dragged a hand down the side of his face. Looking up, he saw from the window that it was dark. It felt as though only a minute ago, it had been the afternoon. However, he could still hear the excited yells and screams from the people playing capture the flag.
A small tap distracted Ezra from his thoughts. "Ezra?" Hera called. "Can I come in?"
"Sure," he shrugged. The door opened for him to see Hera with a tray of steaming cocoa. His eyes lit up at the sight. "Is that for me?"
"Yes, it is," Hera smiled, ruffling his hair a little. "I haven't seen you all day. Working on homework?" She set down the tray and pulled another seat over to sit next to him.
Ezra grumbled at the reminder of homework. "Unfortunately, yes," he said, glaring at the paper. "I don't see the point of education if we're in the middle of a war." Hera laughed softly and pulled Ezra into a hug.
"Well, it'll help for the future," she shrugged, smiling as she began arranging the drinks on the tray around. "After the war."
"Well, it's not as if it's certain that I'll live through the war. I mean, if the Empire ever catches me, they're not gonna be all, 'Hey, you have education! Just because you spent time working on that, we'll let you live just so you can put your education to good use!'" He snorted and Hera laughed gently, pulling him into a hug.
"I know it's not fun, dear," she said, her chin on top of his head, "But do the best you can. I'll even keep you company while you do it!"
After that, it was just the tiniest bit easier to do his homework.
