Outside Viridian Forest

This could be a really good idea, I thought to myself, or it could be the worst idea I've ever had. Pichu was an Electric-type Pokémon and therefore had a type advantage against the Water-type Squirtle and the Flying-type Pidgey, but I had only recently hatched it. There was no telling how it would fare against these two pokemon that were stronger and faster than it.

I decided to see how well this would go. "Let's go, Pichu!" I yelled as Pichu leapt off my shoulder and onto the battlefield.

Robin seemed unconcerned, "Squirtle, use Bubble!" He commanded.

I was done for. Pichu was not anywhere near strong enough to endure Squirtle's attack or fast enough to evade it. Just then a thought occurred to me. If water conducts electricity, then those bubbles could make for added accuracy and more power to Pichu's attack.

"Pichu!" I yelled, "Use Thundershock on the first bubble!"

Pichu obeyed, and as the shock hit the first bubble, it started a chain reaction as, one by one, each bubble burst into a rain of sparks. Eventually, Pichu's attack hit Squirtle, and the water from the bubbles gave some added oomph to the attack.

Robin twitched at the sight of his unconscious Squirtle and recovered shortly to send out his Pidgey again. This time around, Pichu was much quicker to move, and it used a Thundershock to send Pidgey packing.

"I win," I smirked at Robin, "again."

"Hold on a second," Robin complained, "You used three Pokémon against my two. How is that even fair?"

"You're supposed to form a team of six," I explained to him, "The pace at which you do that is completely under your discretion, and it can help or harm to have less Pokemon on your team."

"Fair enough. But you won't have it so easy next time around."

"By the way, where's Kylie? Wasn't she supposed to be traveling with you?"

"Professor Jackson suggested that she take the last starter. He needed another trainer to raise it. She went back to go get it. I told her I would wait for her just outside Viridian Forest."

"Ah. Well, I'm gonna take off now. This is an opportunity for me to get an upper hand while you sit around here waiting on your girlfriend."

"Go screw yourself, Brian. At least I have a girlfriend to wait on."

My smirk wiped away as soon as I heard that. Robin's smile turned into a face of sudden realization of what he had just said.

"Bri," he tried to apologize, "I didn't mean it like that. I'm sorry, man."

"Forget about it," I grumbled as I walked off into the forest.
