The Events of Cinnabar: Part 1

The journey to Cinnabar was yet another tedious one, but my Pokémon were fine-tuned and as powerful as ever. Any trainer that challenged me along the way would go down in one fell swoop.

As I set foot on the island, the ash collected around my nose. It took me a good few minutes to adapt, but I quickly noticed a figure in the distance that I would recognize anywhere.

I quickly and silently made my way over to my target. I stood behind and growled, “Nice to see you again, Manera.”

My shameless rival turned around and met my gaze, then scanned up and down at the sight of my new apparel. “Hey there, Brian. Well, would you look at these fancy duds? To what do I owe the pleasure?”

“We’re having a rematch. That’s not a request.”

Robin chuckled at me, “Fair enough, let’s do it.”

Robin flung his first Pokéball in the air. Exeggutor was summoned. I held out my Pokéball and sent out Charizard.

“You know the drill,” the words spilled coldly from my mouth, “Center, not the Tower.”

Charizard growled at me, then flew up in the air. Exeggutor tried to use Psychic on Robin’s command, but Charizard was too far away for Exeggutor to concentrate. After a while, Charizard swooped down at Exeggutor, and as the Coconut Pokémon tried to use Psychic once more, Charizard blasted a powerful Flamethrower at it. Exeggutor fell immediately.

“Well done, Charizard,” I praised my Pokémon. Charizard glared at me for a moment, then spat a small flare in my direction. I thought little of it as I withdrew the Flame Pokémon.

The power of the attack shook Robin up a bit. He returned Exeggutor and sent out Golem. In response, I sent out Dragonite.

“I thought you would have sent out Gyarados,” Robin wondered.

“I have no intention of using my strongest Pokémon against the likes of you,” I said coldly without even making eye contact. Through my peripheral vision, I noticed Robin was somewhat disturbed by my remark. I was pleased by his discomfort as the battle continued.

“Golem! Rock Throw!”

I grunted at Dragonite in response. The Pokémon flew off at immeasurable speeds and came back with a towering wall of water following behind it. Robin watched in horror as the wave crashed down on Golem, rendering it incapable of battle.

“You decided to come with the big guns, huh?” Robin clenched his fist at me, “Well, I’ve beaten you before, and I can do it again!”

“No you can’t.”

The immediacy and callus of my response seemed to make it clear to Robin that this was not your everyday banter.

"Well, alright then," Robin growled coarsely, "If you're gonna be like that, then it looks like I'm gonna have to get serious."

I chuckled at his statement, "You mean you weren't before?"

Robin sent out Electrode, I decided to stick with Dragonite.

"Electrode!" Robin cried, "Rollout!"

Electrode charged at Dragonite, gaining speed as it rolled. Dragonite looked back at me, waiting for my signal. I waited a moment, then finally gave Dragonite the nod it had been waiting for. It flew a good twelve feet in the air, letting Electrode roll right past it. As Electrode rolled away, Dragonite dropped back down and slammed on the ground with all its might, causing a massive quake. Electrode stopped in its tracks and spun out of control. After a sufficient amount of duress, Electrode exploded and fell unconscious, Dragonite completely unscathed.

Robin was getting throughly frustrated. He sent out Blastoise, and Dragonite put it away with a Thunderbolt attack. His desperation reached its peak now that he was down to his last Pokémon. Pidgeot.

As Robin summoned his last hope, I cackled ferociously and watched heartlessly as Dragonite brought one last Thunderbolt down upon the Bird Pokémon that my old friend had cherished so much from the moment he had first set foot into the world of Pokémon.
