I was walking out of the Cerulean Pokémon Center when I heard a familiar voice say, “Hey, Brian! What took you so long?”

“Traffic,” I responded, “Plus I got lost in Mt. Moon.”

Robin chuckled at my response. He walked up to me, already holding a Pokéball in his hands. Noticing this, I smirked and pulled a Ball from my belt. Robin flung his Pokéball in the air and released his Pidgeotto. I tossed mine onto the ground and brought out Pikachu.

“Oh,” Robin, said, “you evolved the little rat. Well, my Pidgey evolved, too, and it’s a lot stronger than it was before.”

He didn’t even finish saying this before Pikachu fried its opponent with a Thundershock. Robin gaped at the battle-ready Mouse Pokémon with disbelief. He whipped out another Pokéball and smiled confidently.

“I’ve got something to retaliate for that little rat of yours,” Robin said as he flung another Pokéball in the air, “Go, Geodude!”

Pikachu stood with a hardy attitude as the Rock Pokémon emerged from Robin’s Pokéball. It shot a powerful Thundershock hurling towards Geodude, and the attack appeared to hit the opponent pretty hard, but Geodude emerged from the electric attack completely unharmed.

“Your Pikachu’s attacks won’t help you here, Brian,” Robin stood assuming victory, “Neither will your Charmander’s. Watch this. Geodude, use Dig!”

Geodude dove into the ground and burrowed for quite a while. It suddenly shot up out of the ground and took Pikachu out.

I returned Pikachu to its Pokéball and sent out Magikarp. I hadn’t had a lot of luck with Magikarp along the journey, but I had a feeling it was due for a win.

Both parties took at each other with a Tackle attack. Magikarp clearly took more damage than Geodude did. They charged at each other again, but this time, Magikarp dodged Geodude’s attack and tackled it from behind. Suddenly, I noticed that Magikarp began to rumble, and a blinding light surrounded him.

I watched in joy, and Robin in horror, as my harmless Fish Pokémon grew about seven times its original size into the blue serpent-like Atrocious Pokémon, Gyarados.

Gyarados lowered its enormous head to level with Geodude’s and let out an earth-shattering roar. Robin was terrified, but he brought himself to ease with one mere thought.

“Your Pokémon may be stronger now,” his voice quivered, still intimidated by my monster, “But it’s attack still won’t do much to my Geodude.”

“It won’t, will it?” I realized he was right, “Well, I guess we’ll just have to do something about that.”

I whipped out a small, light blue disc labeled “TM13”, a small gift from Kira as we were trekking through Mt. Moon. I scrambled onto Gyarados’s back and held the disc to its head.

I yelled, “Machine set!” as the disc began to glow brighter and brighter and eventually shattered onto the floor, “Gyarados, use Ice Beam!”

A gust of cold air concentrated around Gyarados’s mouth and began to glow a light blue. Gyarados shot it at a troubled Geodude and watched as the mist cleared and showed an unconscious Rock Pokémon.

“I thought for sure I had you beat this time,” Robin sighed as he pulled his flat cap off his head, “but this isn’t over yet! I have one Pokémon left! Go, Wartortle!”

Wartortle was nearly petrified at the sight of its opponent. Gyarados glared down at the Turtle Pokémon, ready for whatever it had in store.

“Wartortle!” Robin commanded, “Use Tackle!”

The Pokémon ignored Robin and quickly hid inside its shell. Robin sat down in disappointment of his cowardly partner.

“My turn,” I smirked as Gyarados lifted up half of its serpent-like body and slammed down on its opponent. When Gyarados rose, Wartortle was imprinted into the ground, unconscious.

“Well, I guess that’s that,” I smirked, dismounting my titan-like Pokémon “Nice effort, Robin.”

All of a sudden, I felt something strange wrap around my ankle and trip me. I face-planted into the soil as I heard a familiar voice.

“You didn’t really think it ended there, did you, Brian?” the voice said, “No, now you’ve gotta deal with me.”
