Kylie

I pulled my face from the dirt to see Kylie Coope towering over me for the first time in both our lives. The feeling was short-lived, however, because I quickly picked myself up and looked down at Kylie's tiny personage.

"It's been a while, Kylie," I smirked, "How've you been?"

"Alright," she responded, "It's been a pretty crazy week, I have to admit."

"I'll say. With everything that's happened since the flood, I'm surprised we can keep up."

"Yeah. Speaking of keeping up, you know I can't let you walk away from this with an easy victory," Kylie explained, and turned to address Robin, "No offense, sweetie."

"And yet," Robin joked, "that stung a little bit."

"So," I looked at Kylie with a cocky grin, "I'll assume that's a challenge?"

"Be careful, Kylie," Robin said to his girlfriend, "He's good, and extremely lucky."

"I'm not too concerned about that," Kylie assured Robin, "Well, Brian, if you're foolhardy enough to take it as one, yeah, it is a challenge."

My Gyarados roared at this remark and seemed ready for battle. It brought its head down to level with Kylie and glared at her intently, anxious for her to send out her first Pokemon. It roared ferociously to give Kylie an idea of what she had just gotten herself into.

"Funny," Kylie said dryly, "A week ago, that would have scared the living hell out of me."

Kylie looked back, and behind her was an Ivysaur, the little demon that tripped me. She smiled at the Seed Pokémon, and it responded by scurrying onto the battlefield.

"Ivysaur!" Kylie commanded, "Use Vine Whip!"

Ivysaur's Vines emerged from it's back and began snapping at Gyarados. Gyarados, not expecting the Ivysaur's strength was taken aback by the force of the attack.

"Don't let it get the best of you, Gyarados!" I yelled to encourage my partner, "Use Ice Beam!"

Once again, Gyarados released a powerful beam of calid energy toward Ivysaur which took it out with one shot. Kylie seemed aggravated by this and retracted her Ivysaur. She tossed another Pokéball into the battlefield, and out popped a Butterfree.

"Butterfree!" Kylie seemed much more sure of herself now, "Use Confusion!"

Butterfree's eyes began to glow ominously and Gyarados was lifted off the ground. Gyarados struggled futilely as it rose higher and higher into the air. Eventually, Butterfree sent my Pokémon flying back and knocked it into me. Gyarados rose again in a rage and roared mightily.

"That's the spirit, Gyarados!" I cheered my Pokémon on, "Now, give 'em another Ice Beam!"

Gyarados used Ice Beam, but this time, it was aimed at me. I was absolutely astounded until I noticed that Gyarados was flailing around, frantically looking for its opponent. That was when I realized that Gyarados was confused.

"Now, Butterfree," Kylie directed, "Poisonpowder!"

Butterfree released a dust into the air. It did not seem like much at first, but it seemed to bother Gyarados terribly. Gyarados was poisoned by the attack.

"Confused and poisoned," I muttered to myself, "Gyarados can't fight like this. Gyarados, return!"

In Gyarados's place, I sent out Charmeleon. My Flame Pokemon seemed itching for a fight and jumped at the opportunity without hesitation.

"Charmeleon," I commanded calmly, "give 'em an Ember attack."

Charmeleon shot flames at Butterfree, and the Butterfly Pokémon went into a seizure trying to shake the blazes off of it's body before finally falling unconscious.

Kylie seemed much more aggravated now, she returned Butterfree to its Pokéball and sent out a Mankey, and the Pig Monkey Pokémon charged at Charmeleon, chopping away trying to find my Pokémon's weak spot.

Charmeleon instinctively fought back, and every time Mankey landed a hit on it, Charmeleon would fight back even harder. This went on until Mankey finally fell out and was retracted. I assumed that this was Kylie's last Pokémon, but I was wrong. She had one more.

"I was hoping it wouldn't have to come to this, Brian," Kylie warned me, "but you leave me no choice. Go, Jigglypuff!"

Out popped the small, pink Balloon Pokémon. Charmeleon snickered under its breath in response.

"I'm sorry, Kylie," I held back a laugh, "Am I supposed to be afraid of that?"

"You don't have to if you don't want to," she replied with a smirk on her face, "but I would be if I were you. Jigglypuff, use Sing."

Jigglypuff began to sing, and as it did, Charmeleon grew drowsy. After a moment, my fierce Flame Pokémon fell asleep.

"Aw, damn it," I groaned. I returned Charmeleon to its Pokéball. I had no other choice now. "Go, Gyarados!"

Gyarados had been severely weakened by the confusion and poison. Jigglypuff used a single Pound attack, and Gyarados went down. To my fortune, though, it went down while tackling Jigglypuff and knocking it out as well.

"So," Robin sat anxiously, "who won?"

"I did," I explained, "Remember, my Charmeleon still has enough health to fight, it's just asleep."
