Celso laughed at my realization, "Did you really think I would let you have this win so easily? How cute."

"What the hell is this?" I still could not fathom what was going on here.

"Do you like Omastar's Protect ability? It's usually found in the Johto region, but I have ways of resourcing such moves."

"That's pretty impressive. But I know a bit about the Protect ability myself. And that's that it won't work if you use it too often."

Charizard flew up in the air again and repeated his attack. This time, Omastar was more than shaken. It took a severe amount of damage and was struggling to stay standing.

"Omastar," Celso growled, "Hang in there, just one more attack!"

But before Celso could even finish the sentence, Charizard blasted Omastar with a powerful Flamethrower. Celso gaped as the flames cleared and revealed the barbecued Spiral Pokémon. Omastar was out.

"Alright, Phoenix, how about this?" Celso sent out his next Pokémon, this time a Cloyster. "Cloyster, use Rain Dance!"

I panicked at this point. Charizard did not fare well in the rain, neither in an offensive nor defensive standpoint. I saw no choice but to retreat. I returned Charizard to its Pokéball and sent out Raichu, the only problem with this maneuver was that it left Raichu open for an attack if Celso was prepared for it, which I was almost certain he was.

My suspicions proved to be correct when I heard Celso command a Hyper Beam attack as Raichu emerged. Raichu recieved a whopping amount of damage from the surprise attack but still managed to remain conscious.

"Raichu," I prayed it still had enough strength to fight back, "Use Thunder."

Raichu put its paws up to its cheeks, ready to attack, but I soon noticed something.

"Raichu, hold on a second!" I yelled, and the sparks flying from the Mouse Pokémon's cheeks subsided instantly. I looked more closely to make sure I was right about what I had seen. I was. Cloyster had finished recharging and was now using Protect, just like Omastar had.
