The time had come. Everything I had ever worked for. All the trials and challenges I had faced came down to this one battle. A battle against the greatest trainer in the Indigo League. I stepped out of the darkness of the tunnel leading to my end of the battlefield. The stadium lights bombarded my eyes in contrast of the twilight.
There he stood, across the way. The man I worshipped. The man I looked up to. As I thought about this, I remembered an old saying that Robin and I had grown up on: "If you spend your life looking up to people, the only thing you'll accomplish is screwing up your neck." That was what I needed. I was done looking up to Kira. I was on his level now, and as long as I kept my head straight, I would surpass him by the end of the night.
We met in the middle of the battlefield and shook hands as we gazed intensely into each other's eyes. Kira had been waiting for this day as much as I had. He had looked forward to fighting me when I realized my potential, and I had no intention of letting him down. If I was going to beat him, I was going to do it right.
The rules were different now. All against all, anything goes. The only condition that was placed was that items were not to be used.
"Sounds good," I said to the referee, "but I have a couple of terms I'd like to place myself. First of all, all Pokémon are released from their Pokéballs prior to the beginning of the match to make the switch-outs less convenient. Second, no commands. The Pokémon fight according to their own instinct and training."
"Mister Fakir," the referee beckoned Kira's attention, "do you accept?"
Kira looked at the referee, then at me. He gave a simple smirk and a nod. Kira gladly accepted my terms.
We released our Pokémon at once. The arsenal was set. The crowd had forgotten that I only had a team of five and began to jeer at the referee's all-against-all terms, claiming they gave Kira an unfair advantage. This surprised me. Kira could be as much a god among men as he wanted, but this crowd was not about to watch an unfair championship battle, no matter who it was against. The committee asked me if I wanted Kira to use one less Pokémon in the match.
"I'll play by the terms," I snapped a look at the referee, then I turned to the audience, "and anyone who has a problem with it can shove it up their ass!"
The entire crowd fell silent instantly.
Kira smirked and nodded at me, showing respect for my pride. He looked behind him and watched as his Venusaur slowly crawled onto the battlefield. I clenched my fist and watched Dragonite fly up behind me and land on the battlefield.
Venusaur did not hesitate, It sent forth a powerful Razor Leaf attack towards my Dragonite. Dragonite retreated into the air and retaliated with an enormous Fire Blast. Venusaur was caught in the fire storm and had no way of escaping. I noticed a light forming within the fire. Venusaur was charging up a Solarbeam attack. I opened my mouth to say something, but I remembered I could not. Dragonite would have to figure it out himself.
Sure enough, as the Solarbeam exploded from the flames, Dragonite swooped down to evade the attack, then began whipping up a gust of wind to blow the fire away. Dragonite flew in closer until it finally slammed a wing against Venusaur. Venusaur struggled for a moment, but as Dragonite tried to fly away, it grabbed my Dragon Pokémon with its Vine Whip attack. Venusaur began flinging my Dragonite around on the vines and slamming it against the walls and the ground. I noticed that with each attack, however, Venusaur grew weaker and more tired. It had been burned by the Fire Blast. Eventually, Venusar became too weak to fight and finally released Dragonite. It doubled over as Kira returned it to its Pokéball. Snorlax charged the field immediately after and bombarded Dragonite with a Blizzard attack, and that was curtains for my first Pokémon.
