Pokémon: Midnight Blue

The Eighth Badge: Part 6

"Go, Rhydon," Giovanni seemed a bit irritated now. Charizard would not be getting out of this one in one piece.

"There's only one thing to do," I crossed my fingers, "Charizard, Solarbeam."

Charizard began charging up his Solarbeam, but Rhydon immediately slammed its body weight onto the ground and instigated an Earthquake. I watched as Charizard's legs trembled and eventually gave out. Charizard fainted.

"Charizard, return!" I had to come up with something good. And I knew just what it was, "Go, Gengar!"

"What do you possibly hope to accomplish with that?" Giovanni laughed.

"Oh you'll see," I smirked, "Gengar, use Mega Drain!"

Giovanni's smile quickly wiped away as Gengar drained Rhydon's energy. Rhydon cut it short with another Earthquake attack. Gengar stumbled back and took a large amount of damage, but it stood firm after the fact.

"Use Hypnosis now!" I barked.

Gengar complied. Rhydon stared intently into Gengar's eyes and eventually fell asleep. Gengar knew what came next. Gengar began to consume Rhydon's energy again, this time with a Dream Eater attack.

I was feeling really good about this part of the battle until Rhydon woke up. Gengar's attack was cut short again. Rhydon started an Earthquake attack once again, and this time, the attack was too much for Gengar to handle. It stumbled backwards again and could not find the strength to get back up.

I looked at my Gengar, then at Rhydon, then at Giovanni, then back at Gengar. I continued this cycle as my hands slowly crept up to the top of my head and grabbed the ends of my hair. I ran my fingers  violently through my hair, knocking my hat off my head, and sputtered out a huge sigh.

"Is there a problem, Mister Phoenix?" Giovanni smirked sinisterly.

"Uhhh," I groaned, "kinda, yeah." There was a huge problem. Giovanni had defeated two of my Pokémon, whereas I had only defeated one of his.

For the first time ever, a Gym Leader had the upper hand on me.
