"Hey Miss B, you know with the worksheet you just gave us? Would you be able to give us an example to start us off?" Michael, a student in my class asks and I nod.
"Of course, let me just think of one." I say grabbing a whiteboard marker out, before walking over to the board and writing EXAMPLE as a heading.
"Alright, let's do alcohol." I say facing the class. "So what does alcohol increase the risk of?"
"Injuries." A few of them yell out and I nod.
"Yes it increases injuries, but why?"
"Because it affects their perception and judgement."
"Correct." I say.
"So because of that, what burden of disease could it contribute to?"
"YLL?" Ann says and I nod.
"Correct, so this is how you would structure it." I say, turning to the whiteboard and writing down a sentence.
"So this is what I'd write... Alcohol increases the risk of injuries as it decreases people's perception and judgement. Injuries are a leading cause of death in Australia and contribute significantly to YLL."
"Oh, is that all we have to write?" A student asks
"Yes." I say and they nod. "Make sense?"
"Yes." They all say.
"Good, now get to work." I say as I place the marker down and walk around the room helping any students that need help....
Finally the bell goes and I dismiss the students from class, before grabbing my stuff and walking to my car, grateful that it is Friday again.
The week has been pretty busy and thankfully, I have nothing on tonight so I am just gonna chill on the couch and watch movies.
I think Marie is coming over, well she said she is. But she says one thing but does another so who honestly knows if she's gonna come or not.
I drive out of the school carpark and speed my way home, just excited that the week is over and the weekend is finally here.
I get home in no time, parking my car in the driveway when I see a familiar car also parked there.
It's not Aarons, definitely not Josh's either.... or Baz....
Then it hits me,
It's gotta be James!
I jump out of my car and run into the house to see James sitting on the couch having a conversation with my brother.
"JAMES!" I yell and he turns around and smiles, standing up and walking over to me as I leap into his arms.
"What the hell are you doing here?"
"Just thought I'd surprise you." He says and I smile.
"Well, you definitely succeeded." I say and he chuckles as I look over at Marcus who has a massive smile on his face.
"I guess this is my cue to leave." Marcus says standing up, grabbing his keys.
"Where are you going?" I ask.
"I need to go past the club to do a few things, then I'll probably head over to Adsy's."
"Alright, well have fun." I say and Marcus smiles.
"Thanks, you too." He says before walking out of the house.
I head over to where I dumped my stuff, taking things out and organising myself whilst James watches me.
