As the night began to unravel, people separated into the two groups that gathered in the camp. You had walked over to the crate of beer to notice the one common trait between the two groups. The men had gathered around the small table in the middle of the camp. Of course not all the men, Reverend Swanson was stumbling around the camp with a beer in his hand and Strauss was busy with his usual scams.
On the other side of the camp, all the women were gathered around the fire. You popped open the beer bottle, taking a swig as you walked over to the campfire. You sat on the log right in between Tilly and Sadie. "Speaking of men, Miss Y/N went out with Arthur today." Karen said as everyone turned to look at you.
You were in the middle of taking a drink, but you quickly froze and lowered the bottle from your lips. "Yeah." You quietly said as you shrugged your shoulders. "You're lucky you got to get out of here." Sadie sighed as she extended her feet towards the fire.
"So... how was it? I mean being with Arthur?" Karen asked as she leaned in, staring right through your eyes. "It was fine, I mean we ain't talk much." You took another sip and looked over at the group of men. Arthur was sitting up tall with his arms crossed over his chest. He looked stern as he stayed focused on conversation taking place.
"Aw come on. You can't take your eyes off of him even right now." Tilly nudged you and you looked away from Arthur. "It's not like that. It was just one errand." You set your beer down onto the hard ground and sat with your hands cupping your face.
"Don't kid yourself Y/N. But ain't he a little old fer ya?" Mary-Beth asked as she eyed the man. "I don't know. I didn't go asking around everyone's age." You looked back at Arthur, who had joined the conversation. "Well, he's 36. And what, you're 21?" Mary-Beth raised her eyebrows. Your eyes widened as you turned to her. "36?! There's no way. He doesn't look that old." All the women let out a laugh and nodded their heads. "Well, age doesn't matter to me." You picked up your bottle again and looked at Abigail.
"You and John, you're a thing, right?" You tilted your head towards the man sitting next to Arthur. "Don't get me started on that man." Abigail smirked as she rolled her eyes. "But you should go for Arthur. He's... not a ladies man though." She chuckled as she turned to the tent where Jack was lying asleep. "I'm gonna go ahead and turn in for the night." Abigail stood up, Karen and Mary-Beth joining her.
You stood up from the log you were sitting on, grabbing the empty beer bottle in your hand and walking back over to Pearson's station. You set the empty bottle down beside the crate and grabbed another beer. Instead of going back to the fire this time, you stood there, eyeing the men of the camp as they laughed and drank their alcohol.
Arthur stood up from the table, walking over by where you were. You quickly stepped out of the way as he reached for another beer. You tried to remain calm, but you had looked over at Arthur long enough for him to notice. Your eyes connected, but you quickly looked away.
All Arthur did was smirk at you as he headed back to his seat at the table. You could feel the heat rise in your face as you continued to watch the back of his head. You saw him say something to John, and John immediately turned around to look at you. He snapped his attention back to Arthur when he realized you saw him looking.
You just shook your head as you walked away from the table and back to the campfire. "So whatcha think you're going to do?" Sadie asked as you sat back down. "Huh? About what?" You held the beer in your hand, swinging it side to side. "About Arthur for Christ's sake!" Sadie tried her best to keep her voice down as she elbowed you in the side.
"Jesus. He doesn't seem interested. Just cause he helped me doesn't mean he feels that way about me. Plus he seems to be busy all the time with Dutch's orders." You quickly finished off the beer, throwing the bottle to the ground near the fire. "Don't act like that now." Tilly clicked her tongue as she stood up from her seat. "I'll talk to you ladies later, enjoy the rest of your night." Tilly walked away from the fire and towards the tent she shared with Mary-Beth and Karen.
"I guess that's time for me to go as well." You stood up from the log and looked over to the small tent you had to yourself as of now. "Goodnight Miss Y/N." Sadie winked as you walked over to your tent. You rubbed the back of your head as you tried to push any thoughts of Arthur out of your head. The last thing you needed was to be worrying about some man that had no interest in you."
